There is a reason why Microsoft always rushed their consoles when Sony makes their movie. One false move against Sony when they are doing the job right and everyone is screwed. They dont want to be any different from Sony in specs or nearly anything as to give them any positive look. This is the way of competition but when Microsoft senses a natural threat this is how they respond.

How did Microsoft rush the xbox one? Microsoft xbox one came out later than the PS4 and the fact that xbox 360 was out longer than ps3. If Microsoft didn't include/force kinect they would be doing a lot better and be very very dominant right now in North America. Even after the mistakes Microsoft made, the xbox one is doing very well in North America. That speaks volume. Also, Microsoft rushing the 360 is what help made the 360 what it was and it was one of the reasons why PS3 lost Sony a lot of money (lost them more money then they made off of ps2 and ps1). Microsoft is doing very well despite the nay sayers. Next gen should be very interesting because more than likely they would be the same price as the PS5 and they will have Minecraft as an exclusive next gen console game. That is huge for Microsoft.

The 360 was rushed one year ahead of time to beat the PS3 to market. Look it up online, the story is available. The former head of Xbox Joachim Kempin spoke about this. The 360 had not gone through complete R&D, but Sony was so dominant that Microsoft did not want to risk launching with them and being decimated. They rushed the R&D and gave birth to their most successful console, but while their strategy to undercut Sony to create an even playingfield with third party succeeded they ended up creating the worst failure rating in gaming history.

Microsoft was watching the PS4's motions to make it to market. As soon as Sony made reveals, Microsoft quickly matched them. Instead of fighting against Blu Ray, they followed them with Blu Ray just like they did with DVD. When they saw how powerful the PS4 was they rushed to fix the clock speed on the console.

Not taking anything away from Microsoft, but their actions (if you've been paying attention) shows just how dominant Sony is and why Microsoft tried not to give them an inch. As you can see when Sony wins Microsoft can barely do anything, but when the PS3 was behind the 360 Microsoft still made great strides to keep the media and gamers on their side as Sony pulled up on them in world sales.

Well then, screw the people that made it look like HW in general would be down
Looks like totals will be up (though X1 itself will be down)

Don't you remember all the reports about the Xbox One development kits being pre-mature compared to Sony's? That alone should be a strong indicator.

Maybe Microsoft was still focusing on 360 more? Sony wanted out of the 7th gen as fast as possible because they lost a lot of money. Microsoft probably still wanted to support 360 more because it was making them quite a bit of money after 2008.

I said the 360 was rushed, but no the xbox one. They didn't do anything to rush the xbox one (the console we are talking about).

I'm not following. I must live in a different reality, because I remember Last of Us, Grand Turismo, Puppeteer, and more. I even remember making a thread asking why is the PS3 getting all the good exclusives at the time. Microsoft pretty much fully transistioned to the Xbox One in comparison.

Pretty sure Europe PS4 numbers are undertracked. Can't wait to compare with NPD.  That does put The Xbox One between the two Xbox records though.

No. Incorrect again, historically speaking. Sony didnt want out of the 7th gen, thats being made up. Look up the sources, its all there. Sony had a ten year plan for profitability on their Playstation consoles (all of them). Microsoft created a ten year plan to follow them as well. Wherever Sony goes, Microsoft will follow. Its why the 360 and Xbox One will last as long as they will opposed to Nintendo who only lasts 5-7 years. The 360 will have the longest lifespan of any console ever because they want to follow the PS3 to the very end of its life cycle. In conclusion, because Microsoft followed Sony's plan their ten year plan their console will actually be on the market for eleven years (the years head start, plus the other ten of the duration for which Sony's console lasts). This will happen for the One as well.  Microsoft knows they cannot give Sony an inch because they are the natural threat.

Sony had a 10 year plan? So does Microsoft with 360. 360 still recieved tomb raider, cod and mgs5 after 10 years on the market.

GT and the last of us were big budget games. No way they would release those only on PS4.

....It seems you're not getting the point. Microsoft cannot lose any ground with Sony. Sony is the choice console of the world have have been since they entered the console industry. Microsoft always knew this. Microsoft had to bust their asses to get their hands on those titles that Sony fought to keep exclusive, so much so that they became Sony staples. If Microsoft can get their hands on those games they can drive gamers away from Sony. Didn't work for the most party, but they tried. The reason why Microsoft succeeded against the PS3 is because Sony screwed up their launch with their pricing. People were waiting on the fence to see what Sony would do with the PS3 and once they revealed the price they jumped ship to the 360. Again...Sony is the worlds natural choice and if they screw up then the competition will then take the reigns. If not then tough luck for the competition and Sony will gobble up all of the third party exclusivity with a streak never seen by any other brand.
