Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One enjoys its best Black Friday yet - up 22% over same period last year

good sales XB1. But god. I hate wading through the MS PR BS. Who the fack care X hours were played on what. Again great sales. I like seeing my favorite industry doing well.

If only Microsoft started out at $400 dollar price point instead of forcing Kinect. They would more than likely be first in North America by now. Microsoft needs to make sure the xbox one is at 300 dollars.

They would've had a better start,  but Sony generally wins generations where they start off on a good foot. This means they take North America with them.

Parsing the PR it's kind of clear on a couple of between the lines points :

(1)- They start out talking about X hours spent on Xbox Live. Lol. That can't be a great sign.

(2)- They start the next point talking about Xbox Black Friday sales on Xbox Store (digital). Okay. Another case of sort of burying the lead.

(3)- THEN they make a somewhat confusing statement : "U.S. Xbox One console sales at retail were up 22 percent over the same period last year, making it the second biggest Black Friday week in 15 years of Xbox history in the U.S." Okay, now we have something to work with, but it's clear they're talking about BF week and nothing to do with the month, nor do they mention the competition. November is over, but they focus purely on 'Black Friday week'. Interpreting that makes it somewhat impossible to gauge exactly how they did over the month, but we can presumably connect the dots that November overall wasn't a historic success, but that the BF $299 sale did VERY well for them, even if it didn't 'win' BF.

I still think X1 will have sold more than 1M units in November NPD (1.1M vs. 1.25M are my predictions for X1/PS4), but this PR makes me a little less confident in the X1 numbers.

Xbox one was 100 dollars more expensive for a while. Im sure they would've mustard an extra million sales in that time period easily if they started out at 400 dollars.

There is a reason why Microsoft always rushed their consoles when Sony makes their movie. One false move against Sony when they are doing the job right and everyone is screwed. They dont want to be any different from Sony in specs or nearly anything as to give them any positive look. This is the way of competition but when Microsoft senses a natural threat this is how they respond.

Good to see there still releasing those oh so important stats that we all want to see, where would we be if we didnt know how many hours of live was played last week.

I'd be more surprised if this report came back saying it didn't sell more, it's significantly cheaper with more/better games since last year. All sales for the industry are good.

Hmm, pie.

How did Microsoft rush the xbox one? Microsoft xbox one came out later than the PS4 and the fact that xbox 360 was out longer than ps3. If Microsoft didn't include/force kinect they would be doing a lot better and be very very dominant right now in North America. Even after the mistakes Microsoft made, the xbox one is doing very well in North America. That speaks volume. Also, Microsoft rushing the 360 is what help made the 360 what it was and it was one of the reasons why PS3 lost Sony a lot of money (lost them more money then they made off of ps2 and ps1). Microsoft is doing very well despite the nay sayers. Next gen should be very interesting because more than likely xbox two will be the same price as the PS5 and they will have Minecraft as an exclusive next gen console game. That is huge for Microsoft.

Don't you remember all the reports about the Xbox One development kits being pre-mature compared to Sony's? That alone should be a strong indicator.
