Hmm, I can see where you're coming from there. I just often get the impression that most writers and forum posters who write such knee jerk stuff are just flat out stuck in the herd mentality, and aping what they see others doing and saying. Perhaps I'm just too narrowly focused, or perhaps I simply have too low an opinion about those folks, but most of the time they simply appear to parrot marketing points, and complain that Nintendo consoles are not absolutely identical to rival systems. It just seems so empty most of the time.

Winner of the thread.

Well, I always thought that people who surround me thinks it's cooler playing a +18 games, with violence and more mature themes than playing with an italian plumber to save the princess in the magical Mushroom Kingdom XDD.
I don't know about the general opinion, actually, I'm just stating what I know about my personal life. For example, my parents can't believe I'm still playing Mario games as they're for kids. 90% of my friends only play sports and shooter games. They don't even want to try playing a Nintendo game because "they're for babies.". I love them, but they're always laughing at me because of that. And I'd add to this that kids want to grown up so fast. My cousins are already playing CoD with 10 years. And I found that very disturbing.
Don't take this as a general statement, because it's impossible to know what are the causes of this. But in my personal experience, these things happen.
| Srassy said: Really? Nintendo is criticized because they make terrible decisions and they have done so regularly for the last 20 years. I was a big fan of Nintendo games but I'm tired of them now. Nintendo doesn't know how to appeal to third parties. Their games are almost all the same 3 or 4 IP and they keep trying innovate for the sake of innovating. Their support in countries outside Japan and America is terrible as well. |
See, I think this is completely wrong. Both the statements. I don't think any company handles so many IPs as Nintendo does. If you're referring to over-used characters, of course, that's almost undeniable. I don't think it's fair cataloguing Mario Kart and 3D Marios, for example, as the same IP. And, well, I think innovation is what keeps one industry alive, being gaming industry or another. People might not be receptive to innovation, and things like "Wii Vitality Sensor" are just awful imo, but the introduction of motion controls and double screen were very well received, and keeps things fresh.
One day us gamers will get rid of Nintendo and their followers, now that they are uniting their console with their handheld it's the perfect time to strike. In the past the handheld part of Nintendo saved their asses more often then not but this time mouhahahahahaha it won't. If you are with me add '' conspiracy'' in your posts. Don't worry I'm using a special algorithm that won't let Nintendian see the contant of this post. CONSPIRACY AWAY!!!!

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.
Why is Nintendo often hated on? Because out of the 3 console makers, they are the company that most alienates their fanbase. The dramatic shift from the decent specs to gimmick focus definitely upset the hardcore gaming community. Their lack of effort to secure proper 3rd party games annoys almost every gamer. Their ridiculous youtube restrictions annoys most streamers and youtubers. Their constant cease and desist letters to fan made projects always annoys fans of those series.
Other companies make mistakes and they recieve a lot of shit for it. When Microsoft announced DRM policies and the kinect for the xbox one, it was popular to hate on them too. What happened? They listened to what people had to say and they made changes. People were hating on Valve when they wanted to give steam developers the ability to monetize mods. They quickly changed that.
People constantly hate on Nintendo for many things, but you can't blame them when Nintendo is literally alienating their fanbase with almost every decision they make (gimmicks, metroid federation force, amiibo crossing, no third party, youtube monetization, etc.)

?
Believe it or not some people actually have more fun playing 3rdparty games on PS and XBox than they do playing games on Nintendo. I would never ever choose a Nintendo only box over anything with good 3rd party support, NEVER.
Nintendo made a mockery out of themselves, and thats pretty much it. They would be similar to what Sony is now in the gaming space if just adapted instead of dying slowly with their stubborn mentality. And I think they played a large role in casualizing the Japan gaming market.
