Forums - Gaming - UPDATE Prediction on 90+ 2016 Exclusive Titles

MS had 3 IPs last gen that had games which scored 90+. Halo, Gears and Forza.
Halo stopped getting that reception when Bungie left and 343i took over the franchise, and both Halo 4 and Halo 5 dropped to 80s category.
Likewise Forza 5 and 6 have also lost the love of critics over the last tow entries.
The only one left is Gears which like Halo is in the hands of a new developers, so we'll see where it ends up.

Nintendo also has a few IPs that consistently get universal acclaim, like Super Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros, and Metroid.
But other than that not much else makes it to that 90+ level, though last gen they had Xenoblade Chronicles which made the list.

Sony is quite different as most of their studios don't usually stick to one franchise, but are able to make new IPs that manage to get the acclaim.
Last gen the IPs that made the 90+ list were Uncharted, The Last of Us, LittleBigPlanet, God of War, Killzone, MLB: The Show.

Out of all the exclusives coming next year the only ones I can see getting 90+ scores (not counting indies) are Uncharted 4, Zelda WiiU, Horizon, Dreams, and Street Fighter V if that counts.
Nothing else has the talent behind it to suggest otherwise, I guess you could make a point for Scalebound cause Platinum has delivered Bayonetta 2 which scored 90, but they miss a lot more often than they hit, and from what we've seen of that game so far it doesn't look like 90+ material.

i think Quantum Break has a chance. even though gameplay wise it looks more like in the 80~ range for me. however they have the story and the show, that could go either way. it can make it score a lot higher, or reviewers might dislike it and make it score lower.

Cup Head seems interesting. but i dont think it would score 90+. but some indies surprise you.

Gears IMO looks like a low 70~ rated game so far. and thats giving it the benefit of the doubt.

Scalebound looks good, but not epic. still, platinum have made 90+ games before, so it might happen.

Crackdown looks okay to me. impressive destruction, but not an impressive game.

People worry too damn much about meta numbers.

Not a big prediction at all.All Xbox ever had that scored a 90 was Halo,Forza and Gears. Now two of them are not getting 90s anymore and gears 4 won't either. The quality of Xbox games have been piss poor since Kinect released.Halo Reach was the last 90 or Gears 3.Wow!

Piss poor?  Jesus Christ.

Why? There's really no reason a game like QB or Recore couldn't come out and get a 90+ score. What magic are you talking about?

I feel the games that tend to get 90+ generally aren't that great. They just appeal to critics in a way MS games generally don't.

When games like Journey and Smash Bros gets 90+ scores, I just know fans of Xbox exclusives are out of touch with critics.

So...you're saying it's the critics fault? They just don't "get" MS exclusives? You act like MS makes these crazy, left field exclusives and they really don't. Most of the Xbox Ones exclusves, released or upcoming, are from franchises that they've had for years, and many of them were 90+ games before. I don't really get argument you're trying to make here.

Journey and Smash are bad examples. Those games were also extremely well recieved by gamers in general.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I've seen you before. I'm starting to think that you have selective memory.

Please allow me to refresh it with a list of the 90+ PlayStation exclusives released in the past 5 years.

MLB 11: The Show
LittleBigPlanet 2
The ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
Journey
The Last of Us
Flower HD (Re-released for PS4 in 2013)
The Last of Us Remastered
Journey HD (Re-released for PS4 in 2015)
Bloodborne

Are the memories coming back now?

Youre the one who made a thread talking about how people buy consoles for exclusives. I focused on our three next gen systems. Of all those games you listed, only Bloodborne counts. Unless, of course, youre already shifting goal posts.

WiiU has three 90+ exclusives, two more than PS4/Xbone combined. Yet sells a lot less than those. Clearly the logic from the OP is wrong.

I'm talking about studying a tendency and use it to make a prediction. XBox has the tendency of not getting highly aclaimed titles and that can not be denied.

Meanwhile PlayStation and Nintendo systems regularly get GOTY contenders. Besides, don't tell me what was the intention of the OP when making this thread.

Because, guess what, I'm OP's best friend lol.

And I'm just letting you know based on the rules you set in the OP, Wii U has 3 titles and PS4 has one. Of course, I missed that the goal posts were already being moved before I replied. Whatever helps your narrative I guess. But if the idea were set in a strong foundation, one wouldn't need to shift goal posts.

So somehow 3 highly acclaimed exclusives for one company and 1 for the other are now an abundance. The more you know.

I think Sunset Overdrive was fantastic and fresh. I think Killer Instinct is one of the best and freshest fighting experiences in years. Forza Horizon 2 is one of the best open world driving games ever. I haven't play Ori, but that's a game that almost hit 90.

Uncharted 3 scored in the 90s and basically more Uncharted 2. Journey is not the hit people think it is but reviews incredibly well. Smash Bros is kinda the same game its been since the 90s. Last of Us had great story but the gameplay is much to boast about.

So yeah, MS has great, unique stuff the competitors have no answer for. But it just doesn't do as well with the critics.

Yet you fail to mention that the Wii U has been out for one more year. The PS4 is VERY likely to get 2 more this year. Uncharted 4 is pretty much a lock with all the exclusives the PS4 has coming up one more will probably do it.

You keep missing the point. Let's simplify things.

1) This is not a PS4 vs XB1 post. Those come in bunches and they usually don't end very well for the XB1.

2) This is a prediction post. Meaning that if you disagree, you should provide me with examples on why you believe that XBox will get a 90+ exclusive in 2016.

Let me illustrate how we can get along and not turn this into a console vs console thread.

Example #1: I believe PS4 has a very good chance of getting another 90+ game in Uncharted 4, because Naughty Dog's games usually score above that mark.

Example #2: Nintendo has the tendency of releasing highly aclaimed titles and 2016 will most likely not be the exception with Zelda.

Example #3: Platinum games did a great job with Bayonetta 2 and Microsoft may have secured a great game for XBox in ScaleBound.

What a friendly and healthy discussion was that.
