I feel the games that tend to get 90+ generally aren't that great. They just appeal to critics in a way MS games generally don't.

So...you're saying it's the critics fault? They just don't "get" MS exclusives? You act like MS makes these crazy, left field exclusives and they really don't. Most of the Xbox Ones exclusves, released or upcoming, are from franchises that they've had for years, and many of them were 90+ games before. I don't really get argument you're trying to make here.

Journey and Smash are bad examples. Those games were also extremely well recieved by gamers in general.
