Some valid enough points, the weird thing through this whole thread tho is that every "real" man who would demand to die in the position of their partners, I wonder have they ever stopped to consider asking their partner what they would want, like if roles were reversed and your wife said that you had to mind the child and she would die because of her gender, leaving you with no say in the matter just because of gender but not how much she loves you. I don't believe I could so quickly decide for my partner that I was going to martyr myself for her just because of gender, could do it out of love... but based on gender? nothing to do with it. Nor would I have issue with her offering her place on a life raft for someone she loved (mother/father etc.) because she wanted them to live on more.

As much as letting the elderly die because they have less years to live remaining is true... what ever happened to respecting your elders?

the thing is that it seems like what a "real" man and "real" woman should be are determined by what women and men want in partners generally

this is to some extent what causes gender equality and as a result women are casting off their gender roles and being emancipated and i have no problem with that

men should also be changing to adapt to these changes not ignorantly clinging to old customs that no longer apply in the current climate

and yeah respect for elders is a good tradition but a fading one apparently

instead lets forget all of this and have a game of hop scotch

I don't think people are going too far with this.

Its a thought expriment. Some people are afraid of that, others indulge themselves greatly. Everyone has strong opinions though, and it has sparked a lot of discussions. That's what a forum is all about, right? :D

I don't know the rules in here too, and altho as stressful some of these posts are, I'm all fro fre speech, so I'd say to let the thread keep going as is.

It's very depressing that when men are saying they would only want to give their lives to their loved ones instead of some random person just because genitals and that is seen as "horrifying", "unmanly", "crybaby" and whatever other insult. It is also very depressing that someone seeing a man wanting to preserve his own life instead of some random woman, they think it is because he has been manipulated, instead of the other way around...

if it isn't much effort then I'd rather C so that the calm discussion could play out more, but if it'd be too much work of drama to ban for peoples beliefs but there have been a few very personal digs here tho.

kinda down to yourself imo, this thread is a lot less black/white , right/wrong so it's gonna be more work than ndp or resolution war threads as to who gets the wrist slaps here.

tis cool to see the thought process of why some people feel as they do regarding gender roles tho, if the thread is closed I'll just say thanks to the OP for making an interesting thread though.

Take a look at either religious threads or at a few of the threads about gay rights. I'm not surprised by these replies ^^

There are a lot of interesting question marks regarding the discussions in this thread though, things like "doing the right thing" and "being a real man".

Right thing (or real man/woman) according to who? And why? Because these things are NOT universal truths. Never have been. There is no oracle to ask, no instruction manual to refer too. These are questions everyone has to answer for themselves.

Always 3.. people should be individually responsibilized... if the thread have really become so bad and toxic them 2.

I suspect more men than not would still cede their seats. Obviously this is generalizing, but I do think there's something instinctive to the whole chivalry thing, even if it's not necessarily altruistic in nature.
