When PS5 & Xbox Two, release.

JRPG fan are you implying that NX won't be a 9th gen console then...

No matter the specs, wii u/3ds were 8th gen consoles, they replaced their predecessors wii/ds which were introduced in the 7thgen, so their successor/s will be  a 9th gen console/s! :P

Its in whats understood by the word.

You and I have differnt meanings to the word "generation" of consoles.

My way of thinking is a generation is you take the consoles on the market, and line them up, and they are all 8th gen.

If whatever whoever launches late/early ,and their product is more or less the same as the others, that makes it the same gen as the others (to me, imo).

9th gen will start when all 3 have new consoles out, and it demands theres a "big" leap in terms of performance compaired to whatever is currently on market.

If nintendo launches a new console thats 10 times as powerfull as the PS4.... yes it will be a "next" gen product.

If nintendo launches a new console thats only as strong as the ps4/xbox one, that just means its "current" gen product that launched abit late (again this is my perception of what is ment by "console generation").

Yeah, I assumed what you mean... That's why I pointed out: No matter the specs

Definately, different aspects!:P

I'm in no hurry.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

I've always considered handhelds to be in their own gens. My thinking:

Gen 1: Game & Watch
Gen 2: Gameboy/GameGear
Gen 3: GBA/Wonderswan
Gen 4: DS/PSP
Gen 5: 3DS/Vita

Just going to call it now, the NX* won't be released until Nov. 2017. The Wii U, was announced a year and a half before it released. Same will be with the NX.

*Assuming it's a home console.

I know some people are in no hurry, but I'm curious. I'm always anxious about what the future of gaming is gonna be like.

Me too, but we have had so little games for PS4 and X1 up until now that I think we need some more years before really needing a new gen

Do we count handhelds on this too, or we keep them in their own separate generations?

We don't. Kids these days are all confused about that for some reason, but we don't. They're seperate. Handhelds have their own generations and consoles have THEIR own generations.

NES

SNES/Genesis

PS1/Saturn/N64

Dreamcast,PS2,Xbox and Gamecube

Those are examples of console generations.

"Kids these days" aren't confused about anything. You are. Handhelds 100% are part of generations with consoles.

Do handhelds really count though?

There's something I learned in my time conversing on the internet. When someone wants to be right about something, they will be right. No amount of words, facts, stats etc. will convince them otherwise.

This is one of those times.
