So Japanese people think that Cloud got in to appease westerners, while we think it's vice versa.

Your reaction to what the Japanese say?

If I remember correctly, Sakurai once said the only character he put in the game to appease Westerners is Little Mac, so it's pretty clear Sakurai doesn't care too much about character opinions of Westerners. Also wasn't this game more popular in Japan than any other regions?

They "its to appeal foreigners" crap is just the thing JP say when they're salty, it's literally meaningless.

I've seen it being used to bitch about nearly every game, including western ones, lol.

Well, some of us Westerners are certainly very excited.

I am fine with it and like the idea of Smash growing beyond Nintendo characters to excite imaginations with possibilities. I just wish another company could handle this concept as well.

I seriously doubt Sakurai would be one to one side his audience like that, though.

Haters gonna hate. It became popular to hate on VII for some reason, so a lot of people forget that it was still one of the best-selling games in the series, not to mention the one that brought it into mainstream.

FF7 is the west FF so I think that is true.

Reading over the translated comments, that was not the conclusion I got... only a few mentioned about him appealing to foreigners..

What I got from those translated comments is that the reaction is really similar here. A lot of people are really excited while others think that other deserves a spot more than him..

My reaction is the same it's always been since Nintendo decided to put non Nintendo characters in SSB... thumbs down. SSB use to be a game that featured Nintendo characters doing battle. That was the selling point, that was the charm. The same goes for SMK as well. The charm of it was the idea that all of these characters from Mario's universe are absurdly raising against one another in go karts. Now? Apparently Isabelle and Link have been to the Mushroom Kingdom. It's silly imo.

They're still great games though.
