Forums - Sony - Is Sony enforcing an OS throttle on bandwidth?

My downloads speeds are 4x slower on my PS4 than every other device in my house, it can get faster sometimes I think I just live in a bad area for PSN servers though.

I have a 100mbps connection and my ps4 usually goes up to 60 and 70mbps, sometimes even further. I'm sure that if you experience some limit is on the server side.

My internet isn't so fast for me to have this kind of issues.

My old housemate just moved and was telling about this exact issue. He was losing his mind because he went through the effort of running ethernet cable through the new place and it made no difference. Do they cap ethernet speeds to make a more uniform experience for wired and wireless users?

I can't complain about my Xbox One download speed and latency either:

My Wii U is limited by my WiFi because Nintendo cheaped out on an Ethernet port, but at least it's a steady connection. Good enough for most game and demo downloads and online play:

My PS3 is also limited by WiFi, but even with Ethernet it wasn't much better. And it lacks of the comfortable standby downloads of the 8th gen consoles (or at least background downloads while playing offline games on it).

Can't say I've noticed Ps4 downloads going any slower than downloads on other devices. Indeed, sometimes it takes less time for a PSN game to download than for the VGC homepage to fully load onto my computer screen.

I've has Steam downloads run much much slower than PSN downloads.

It used to be an issue in 2014 but not this year. everything downloads really fast and if I have a full game, say 30gb I put in in standby and it's downloaded in no time.

I don't think Sony expected the ps4 to sell so fast initially and it probably took them a while to get on top of things.

PSN just downloads slow as fuck. There's just something bizarre about it. The fact that you can pause/resume the dreadfully slow downloads and they magically speed up just proves there's something wonky in the design.

This is true!

When i notice that the DL are going too slow, i just pause for a couple of seconds and then resume. The DL speed goes significantly up.

Weird as fuck...i hate that.

Yes, they do. I get 60 down and on PS4, it never allowed me to get anything faster than around 25 down. It drove me nuts.
