More info on the game: (should  be added to the OP)

Update 9:22 a.m.: Details from Weekly Famitsu’s interview with director Takeshi Ozawa and chief producer Youichi Simosato have surfaced:

How work on a new Valkyria game began…

Ozawa: “We wanted to do something new using Valkyria, and one of the things we’re putting in is a real-time system. Initially, we were considering real-time strategy, but we went with an RPG because we think that’s what more users will want to play.”

This game’s connection to Valkyria Chronicles

Ozawa: “This time, we switched to an RPG. The concept of the battle system and the sensation of the battlefield are the same, but because it’s an RPG with simulation elements, you can experience the battlefield through a different perspective.”

Regarding the flow of the game…

Ozawa: “You get the feeling that you’re taking territory from a major power and expanding your scope. You’ll prepare at the base, go out to the field, achieve your objectives, and return to base. It’s similar to an RPG where you go into dungeons.”

Regarding the world…

Ozawa: “It’s completely different (from Valkyria Chronicles). This time, the key item known as Ragnite is not just used as an energy resource, but also has magical aspects. Valkyria are supernatural compared to humans, beings considered close to gods.”

Shimosato: “I want them to become known as the Senjou series and Kakumei series.” (Note: This means the “Battlefield” series and “Revolution” series. In Japan, Valkyria Chronicles is called “Senjou no Valkyria,” or “Valkyria of the Battlefield,” while this new title is called “Aoki Kakumei no Valkyria,” or “Valkyria of the Azure Revolution.”)

Regarding combat…

Ozawa: “There are symbol encounters, but symbols are shown as a unit, and you can interact with a symbol before the encounter. You can snipe an enemy symbol, use a smokescreen to disable it, or shoot at it with a rifle to lure the enemy. Sniping is powerful, but on the battlefield it functions like an usable item so there are limits how often it can be used.

“Battles are conducted by setting commands to buttons. They’re action-ish battles. It takes on the familiar form of recent RPGs. The maximum amount of party members is five. You control one of them, and the rest move based on a set thought process.”

Shimosato: “As there are beings that transform into tanks, there are also weapons that imitate living things.”

A message for fans…

Shimosato: “We can’t announce it yet, but we’re commissioning music from a famous name.”

Ozawa: “There are parts similar to Valkyria Chronicles, but because it’s largely different on the surface in a good way, we want you to enjoy this game with flat eyes as a new series.”

Also better resolution Scans

The game will be different to the original in many ways, but i dont care because im happy this franchise isnt dead plus i dont really mind tha changes (yes the original is one of the best SRPGs ive played, but i also like real time RPGs as well and i think this one has potential).

Very happy about this, but i really hope they do a remaster of 2 & 3 too, played 1 on ps3 & pc, got enough of this one.

2 and 3 really arent as good as the first one. Smaller maps, less troops per map and alot more grindy. Aka they conformed to the popular monster hunter mission based grind design. You are better off skipping them or watching on youtube.

Can't wait to triple dip.

You're this series savior.

Ive never even played the damn game and I own it on PS3 and PC already, will certainly pick up a copy on PS4.
Not the first time Ive done something like this either, still havent played Hyperdimension Neptunia despite owning a copy for PS3, Vita and PC

So this is basically a spinoff from the Senjou/Battlefield series, based on the same world.
It's now a real time Jrpg instead of a Strategy rpg with real time elements.
And you control a party of 5 at the same time (although the other 4 seem A.I. controlled based on your strategies/commands).

This is completely different from Valkyria Chronicles, and I don't know how to feel about that yet, because I loved Valkyria Chronicles battle system.

yeah, i'm in the same place.  i loved VC's battle system and i'm not sure i'll enjoy the new system as much.  from what i read it sounds a bit like that of dragon age,.. i tried a demo to one of the games and didn't really like it that much.

oh well,.. i'll probably buy it regardless.  i once would have said i didn't like SRPGs until i played VC,.. maybe this one will make me love real-time JRPG.

I'm loving this new trend. Playstation is the place to be for Japanese games. A new golden wasera is upon us!

Not an SRPG? Hype deflated considerably.

I disagree.

The third one is the better for me, and other players too who did all 3 games. Better characaters/story/content, and the gameplay is still good, a better gameplay than the 2nd one.

But valkyria 2 is easily the worst yeah.

YES! THE LORD DOES LISTEN!

One eye shines with happiness and the other sheds a tear because Raita is not back.

I hope that you feel like you're taking territory from the enemy and expanding your own, because that's something I didn't feel like I was doing in the first game. Story wise, yes, we took territory from the enemy. But it had no impact on the gameplay, and it didn't feel like we grew bigger. I would like to really feel like taking territory matters in this game and is benificial to the player in some way, like expanding our base and it's functions, and being able to recruit new people from specific territories we've taken over. (Not that they just show up automatically once you've completed a new chapter, but perhaps doing some mission in that area and give the new recruit a proper story introduction, or put in an add in the local newspaper agency to trigger the event, etc.)

The famous composer that they're getting sounds interesting, because they already had a very good one for Valkyria Chronicles 1 (Final Fantasy 12 composer).
And they seem to be using a different artist this time for character design, and so far I feel this is a negative change.

I'm really happy that they are continuing the franchise though, and on console/PC.
But since this is like a completely new game, I don't know how much I'll like it until I see it in action.

Yeah this is a very different type of game, and its easy to make the distinction with the names in japanese since the normal games are called "Senjou no Valkyria Chronicles" and this new one is called "Kakumei no Valkyria", (Valkyria of the Battlefield and Valkyria of the Revolution in english),

So i already adjusted my expectations for this game, i am not expecting a new "traditional" valkyria chronicles game and neither am i expecting it to be any similar to the previous games, im just expecting a GOOD JRPG in the world of Valkyria Chronicles, (and i know this new game is set in a different world but its also supposed to be very similar to the previous one).

Regarldess of the changes i am still hyped, plus the fact that they are making a distinction between the two types of games (Senjou = SRPG and Kakumei = Real Time JRPG) means they arent changing the formula, they are just adding a new branch of games (kind of like a spin off game), so the traditional VC SRPG still exist and if this game is succesful we might see a new Senjou no Valkyria Chronicles.
