I guess 'Zelda 2016' and the 'NX' both being released in 2017 had a big negative impact on Wii U sales.

Did Wii hardware outpace Wii U software if you align launches? Anyway I doubt it since the Switch has launched.

Apparently it ended up doing 16m. So probably even with Zelda it wouldn't have made it.

Probably not, but it wouldn't be too far off if the Switch didn't release so early.
