I find very funny that 2016 is such a big year for both WiiU and 3DS, when a lots of signs point out the NX might release next year. What an odd transition.

I don't see how it's such a big year for either, it seems in line with what they got for 2014/2015.

3DS 2014-Bravely Default, Professor Layton: Azran Legacy, Yoshi's New Island, Disney Magical Castle, Kirby Triple Deluxe, Mario Golf: World Tour, Tomodachi Life, Final Fantasy: Curtain Call, Ace Attorney vs Professor Layton, Smash Bros 3DS, Pokémon Art Academy, Fantasy Life, Pokémon OR/AS, Personal Q

3DS 2015-Majora's Mask 3D, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, Codename STEAM, Fossil Fighters Frontier, Story of Seasons, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, Etrian Mystery Dungeon, PDZ+Super Mario Edition, Little Battlers Experience, Animal Crossing: HHD, Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash, Legend of Legacy, Triforce Heroes, Yokai Watch, Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon

3DS 2016-Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, Final Fantasy Explorers, Project x Zone 2, Fire Emblem Fates, Hyrule Warriors Legends, Bravely Second, Dragon Quest VII, Dragon Quest VIII, Metroid Prime: Federation Force

Wii U 2014-DKC Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, Super Smash Bros Wii U, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, NES Remix

Wii U 2015-Kirby Rainbow Curse, Mario Party 10, Splatoon, Super Mario Maker, Yoshi's Woolly World, Mario Tennis, Amiibo Festival, Xenoblade X

Wii U 2016-Twilight Princess HD, Star Fox Zero, Pokken Tournament, SMTxFE, Zelda U

Obviously both could get more titles, Pokémon Z seems inevitable along with some more localizations like SMTIV Final for 3DS and Pikmin 4 has been hinted at and could release for Wii U next year but for the most part next year seems to be a standard year for 3DS/Wii U releases.

I only see Zelda on that list tbh. This year was a bigger and more varied year. Having no multiplats makes you forget that Ninendo pumped out a lot more than people think exclusively though.

maybe for Nintendo since they haven't heard of the Internet yet

The problem with the "we'll just fix it with patches" mindset is it's incredibly short sighted. What happens if someone buys a used copy of [insert name of game with huge day 1 patch] 25 years from now? Will these companies be hosting those patches on their servers still? Maybe, but I doubt it.

That still hurts the reputation of a game for being high-quality; we've had tons of games in the past couple of years that needed to be patched in order to be somewhat playable.

I'd rather wait so the game I finally get to play feels complete. Playing something that's buggy or unpolished can sully the experience of a good game.

And 0 third parties.... "but we don't need shitty third parties'

Twilight Princess HD (Tantalus), Pokken Tournament (Bandai Namco), Star Fox: Zero (Platinum Games) and Genei Ibun Roku #FE (Atlus) are made by third party studios. But I doubt making a rational argument was your intention when you entered this thread. And Super Smash Bros. 4 was also made by a third party studio and will get Cloud as DLC, one of the most iconic third party characters in gaming.

In fact, Mario & Sonic at the Rio Olympics is made by Sega and Project Treasure is made by Bandai Namco. The only game on his list that is being made by Nintendo is Zelda U.

only one of those games, is an actually 3rd party game. Everything else is 2nd party

We're talking about third party studios. None of those companies are second party. AlphaDream is second party and so is HAL Laboratory. Why? Because they're not owned by Nintendo, but make games exclusively for them.

If Nintendo didn't think they'd need third parties then why would they collaborate so often with them? Why is this so hard to understand for some?

All those games are first party games because Nintendo owns them (so they're not second party games like Banjo-Kazooie used to be during the N64 days), but they're made by THIRD PARTY STUDIOS.

there is a big difference between a game being made by a 3rd party studio and a 3rd party game. In the end those are still Nintendo games, but that is not going to make up for missing titles like Fallouts, Far Crys, CoDs, ACs, TRs, FFs, and so on. Thats what most and i think what he was alluding to...maybe.

Edit: i understand your argument, but even then its only Japanese 3rd parties and a few of them.

Maybe it's because I'm european and I get YW and Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon next year, but I have way more interest in 2016 than 2015, almost everything I had interest in has been moved to that year.

I think its obvious, Wii U have so much must have games that every new owner is buying those games even if they are old 2-3 years, thats Nintendo games are having good legs, not mentioned that this gen with updates and DLCs they pushing older games, and of course every year instal base is bigger for few millions.

SMT X FE is from a third party, as well as Project Treasure and Star Fox.

Pokken is too. Oh, and TPHD. Lots of outsourcing going on lately.

In terms of publishing though, none of these will be 3rd party (except Project Treasure).

There is a big difference between no third party and no published third party.

Nintendo should have gotten Zelda U out this year. I know it takes time and I'm willing to wait for a great product. However, the Wii U suffered from not having an original "REAL" Zelda for 4 years. This thing will push units.

I think they should take their time.

The same Nintendo that updates their games constantly...

No, not anymore.

Soooo... you would be okay if they delay it to 2017 or 2018?  I mean, the more time they take, the better the game is going to be. Isn't it?

2020 and let's wait if they are ready, if not, wait another 5 years. I mean, why to release? Every game released before a 10 year cycle is shit.

Updated the thread. As of December 12th Wii u software sales are 21m for the year. It might even do better than 2014 by the end of the year so that crazy considering the games this year just weren't as big as last year.
