I don't think this has been discussed before, but the upcoming Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Bros. makes one realize just how fantastic the Mario universe is. The game is a crossover between Mario games. I mean, how sick is that? Usually crossovers are done between two rather distinct brands (like Etrian Odyssey and Mystery Dungeon earlier this year), but this game is Mario and Mario. Plus Bowser and Bowser. And obviously, Peach and Peach. Like the most recent trailer revealed, this opens up a lot of exciting possibilities for storytelling. You know, two princesses to rescue, even though both of them are Peach. Now that's what I call juicy.

I am looking forward to play this game and I hope that in the future we can get more crossovers between Mario games. For example, 3D Mario and Mario Kart. Explore a world for new vehicle parts and then build a fast machine before you get on the race track. Sort of like Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, but good.

I am sure you guys can come up with some cool stuff too, so you are welcome to post your ideas.

You mean Crash Tag Team Racing in a mario universe? Count me in Would love to see that one day   I would like if Nintendo would make a Mario Hub game, from where you could roam around an open world and play all the older Mario games by simply opening them up as you progress. That would be awesome Of course it would probably also IAP in it...

Paper Mario x Super Smash Bros.

Old School Paper Mario but you mixed teams of 2 or 3 with Nintendos biggest characters...

They should make a crossover between 2D and 3D platformer Mario, and call it something along the lines of 3D... something... World, Land, whatever, I'm sure it would work.

This is actually a very good point, lol.
Its almost amazing (and sad) that this is like the first discussion worth anything or at the very elast, unique, that we had here all year. Its strange to see a subject here, and think: hey, never toutgh about that, lets discuss.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

Well yea, a franchise certainly has gone far if it's able to do a crossover with itself.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

For fun, I'll list every Mario series I can think of. I'm classifying a series as any naming regime with 2 or more unique games, and it has to have Mario in the title.

  • Super Mario
    • Super Mario Bros.
    • Super Mario World
    • Super Mario Galaxy
    • New Super Mario Bros.
    • Super Mario 3D
    • Super Mario Land
    • Super Mario Advance
  • Mario Kart
  • Mario Party
  • Mario Tennis
  • Mario Golf
  • Mario Strikers
  • Mario and Luigi
  • Paper Mario
  • Mario vs Donkey Kong
  • Dr. Mario

I must be missing some here  (please tell me what!) but we've already developed a quite impressive list - and that's not including obvious Mario subseries that don't have Mario in the title such as Luigi's Mansion, Yoshi's Island, and WarioWare. Then you also have notable individual games such as Mario Paint, Super Mario Maker, and Super Mario RPG among others.

When will the others
