In case you didn't know, Yo-kai Watch was released in the US already!

Not only has advertising been very low for this game in the US, but almost no one has mentioned it ever since it did get released.

 

I honestly didn't think it would do well here. With kids nowadays preferring COD and whatnot, low recognizable aspects of the game, and a mobile-leading industry, this game didn't get the spotlight Pokemon had.

 

Anyone surprised by this? I know I'm not.

I wouldn't be too surprised if that was the case, as they didn't announce it selling like crazy or anything yet..

So far I'm really liking it. However I could see it being a bit more niche than they were expecting. I mean one of the first parts of the game is you retrieving an old man's underwear

Cause if it were a woman's there probably would've been gamergate nonsense for teaching kids to find women's panties.

Pokemon didn't start off in the west lighting the charts. It was kind of a sleeping giant that built up mad momentum. It's too early to call with yokai watch how well it will do - especially since, as you pointed out, Nintendo hasn't even begun their full marketing campaign

Uh, it's had quite a bit of advertising. I'm not sure what your expectations were, but it's far and away the most advertised 3DS title I've ever seen outside of Pokemon and Tomodachi Life.

No fanfare in its release here in the Philippines, though I still have to check if Toy Kingdom is trying to build hype.
They released the toys lineup first, so it'll be interesting to see what happens next.

It didn't sell that in a few weeks. It took months, even years to sell that amount. Give the game sometime. Thanks to the anime, word of mouths and legs can be possible. The market is a lot smaller and kids use smart devices over gaming handhelds nowadays, but I think it can reach 1 million units in the US when all is said and done.

Of course, I'm basing this on... nothing but merchandise. It worked for Nintendo before, it can work again. Not to the same extent, but eh...



Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.
