Forums - General Discussion - What do you think you have to do to get to Heaven?

I still have yet to receive an answer as to why I "look like an ass" for asking a question about language.

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

I did? Explain. Or is this the part where the religious call me a loon and try to discredit me because they cannot answer the question.

Did I call you a loon NO. You know what

"Forget it, Venkman! You had your chance to cooperate, but you thought it'd be more fun to insult me. Well, now it is my turn, wise ass."

Just lighten up.

And to answer you question it's because my question was in no way about religion but whether anyone else was bothered by the fact that in a would be documentry they keep saying BS.

I thought I did answer but to expand

"If God created language (or the ability to speak | or created language THROUGH people) wouldn't all language be the word of God and therefore be acceptable, non-offensible? Also, we had another thread discussion where all the religious typesfailed to prove that if God created free will, then why can he not control it."

now givin your next post was

"Then you should go get yourself a prostitute.  Last time I had one, I experienced something good.  Don't deny my teachings, because they are the words of God, through me.  Or doesn't that apply to me?  It only applies to those that teach the same thing you believe in?"

I could only assume your first post was a jab and not a real question.

and for the record I do not like Penn I find him too much like Billy Mays.

On another note I would enjoy your thoughts on this and no I am not being sarcastic

"Back off, man. I'm a scientist."

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist. Especially if you think the moon landing was faked.

No, it was a real question.  If everything God created is "of God" and therefore noble, then through man everything is noble by the strictest interpretation.  It goes back to the old question if God can create a mountain big enough that he cannot move... could he give us free will enough that he could not control it?  And if so, then I'd say he's not all powerful and that flies in the face of ALL teachings.  And you could give me the excuse that he chooses not to control it, but that in itself would tell me that he is fallable and human.  Another problem I have with the idea of God is that I cannot have proof of his existance.  Somehow Moses was deemed privelages enough to have a conversation with God, so apparently he's not too busy to chat with the likes of us.  Also, I am a bit ignorant in the fact that I didn't read the entire Bible and study it.  I don't care to, but I am pretty sure that the Bible says something about living only under the rules of God.  If you follow the speed limit, park only between the hours of 8pm and 2am, and drive on the right side of the road all the time, then you are follows the rules of man and not the only 10 rules you should live by.

And for the record, the Penn and Teller clip wasn't me, although it is the truth, wehter you like the language or not... which begs the question if language, created by humans as instruments of God can be considered "wrong."  The rule you live by, where you can't say shit, fuck, ass, et al in front of kids is NOT the ruling of God, but the ruling of man... and it flies in the face of the thought above.  I'm pretty sure I was talking about the picture of "Muscle Jesus" breaking the cross though... which yet is acceptable as a human interpretation of a situation that nobody has any real verifiable evidence, except one.  We all know that you CAN NOT trust one singular source for all your information... it breeds ignorance.

Wow ... ok .. I know I'm really late to this party but i'm just gonna say a little on your statement about free will...
God's greatest gift to humans is free-will, and he could control it if he wanted to.... but he will never do it, 'cause if he'd do it then he wouldn't be God, he wouldn't be different from Satan who wanted exactly that, to take free will away from us

just my two cents ...

I've had a near death experience which left me with the strong belief that ALL organized religions are full of crap. I'm not saying the overall message is full of crap, just that the people who deliver said message are.

Words like "holy" and "sacred" are meaningless!

This is what Jesus had to say about this topic

Matthew 25:

31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

From my experience I know that there is something beyond this life (another level, if you will) and I have a feeling that a LOT of people who call themselves Christian are in for an unplesant surprise.

Quoting the bible is like quoting Wikipedia. So many people have had their hands and thoughts in it that you can't trust a single word. How many different versions are there now? Find the original text, translate it and you'll probably find it was just a book someone wrote to tell a story.

Jesus didn't say any of that shit. It's all in English. (edit: the point of me saying this is that you are quoting the bible and stating that Jesus said those things, but before that, you claimed that religion has it wrong... Guess who translated your bible.  Go on.  Guess.)

What your saying makes no sense and the bible says to obey the laws of the government.

And as for the question can god make a rock so big he can't move it.
Well thats like mickey mouse asking if Walt Disney could make a rock so big he could not move it.

Also wikipedia has tons of accurate information, just check the sources and you'll be fine.

to the person who quote the bible .... what was your point in doing it ... I couldn't understand it :(

to Andir: it might not be a perfect translation, but as a whole it is the word of god to men, written originaly by people guided by god ... but later translated by normal men ... so it won't be perfect ... but it's still a way to know God better

My mind has changed. My strength has not.    Kamahl, Fist of Krosa

This thread should be titled "Fun with cyclical logic," as most of the theological end of religeous arguments become.

My Favorites are the ones that follow like these:

'God Doesn't Exist'

'How do you know god doesn't exist?'

'There is no proof or evidence to show that he does.'

'But he still COULD'

'So could a Giant squid that travels the stars planting tulips and raping chickens'

'See you can't prove he DOESN'T exist'

'The oweness is not on the disproof. Things do not 'exist unless you prove otherwise'. You have to prove God does exist.'

'Just admit it, you lose'

'Fine, if God is all powerful, can he make someone with free will do something they don't want to do? Because if they have free will they can't be MADE to do anything, even by God. If God CAN make them do something then they don't have free Will. If they don't have free will then you are changing the argument, if they do have free will God can't make them do anything, therefore God isn't all Powerful, therefore God doesn't exist'

[10 posts later]

'So let me show you some bible passages that claim the bible is the word of God, then you will see!'

^ I think i totally agree with you .... religion is not a thing you can teach by words or facts... even if God himself was here a lot of people still wouldn't believe in him, it's just something you have to feel.
Christ lived among the jews and they still didn't believe in him ... he made lots of miracles and they still didn't believe in him.

Religion is something that you must feel in your heart ... the same way maybe simple words won't convert anyone in this thread ... nobody could make me feel otherwise about the fact that i know that God lives.

You just feel it or not
