Once the Steam machines and NX release, will Graphics and Visuals still be a talking point for this generation? I notice alot of gamers shut up when PC, 4k and 60 frames gets mentioned. Fans are happy to speak up when we hear debates about 900p vs 1080p. Is it still revlavent now that Steam machines are going to out perform the XB1 and PS4? Maybe even the NX?

Once the XB1 and PS4 become outdated and out muscled which is very soon, will gamers still care about the visuals? Iv play on all systems and my PC is my main gaming machine, i have played The Order and Halo 5 and both look gorgeous however knowing that there are machines out there that can do even better would that put you off the games?

As a gamer in the late 80s, visuals will always improve, i have seen when Sega tryed to out muscle Nintendo with Blast Processing, iv seen Sony say the same with the PS2's Emotion Engine and PS3's Cell, i now see the same with XB1's Cloud and PS4s GDDR5 ram. In many cases we have seen this gen that the best looking games *Cough Ryse, Order Cough* are poor games with nothing but visuals to carry there sales. I did prefer Forza Horizon 2 over DriveClub based again off gameplay and fun factor (Opinion)

Will Graphics still be a talking point? For me, No it wouldnt because some of the best games iv played looked no where near the best for example World Of Warcraft, a game thats been on the shelf for 10 years and still holds up as the best MMO to this day and it looks prehistoric compared to other games or L4D which looks no where near as good as Dead Island or Dying Light but its fun factor and gameplay still holds up today. I even choose Halo 4 over Crysis 3 (PC) for two main reasons, Gameplay and Story. I wonder how many gamers think the same as me.

If 3rd party games look better on Steam and NX will that affect your purchase for current XB1 and PS4?

Around the Network

Steam machines came out yesterday and there is an NX thread.

No AAA titles on steam OS, never will be. Windows or nothing.

Where have you been? PS4 and X1 were outperformed before they were even released. Steam machines will fail spectacularly since there is no market for them. Nx will be in the best case scenario slightly more powerful than PS4.
People will always talk about graphics and performance because it's an important factor. It's also the base marketing platform for any console.

So is this just your generic "I play games, not graphics and people who like performance are stupid PC elitists" thread?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

purchase of what, a game or console,or are you trying to imply everyone will drop their xbox1 or PS4 for a steam machine or a future NX

i always thought the PS2 and Wii won their gen without the graphics

Anyone actually considering buying a steam machine?

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

What does Steam machines have to do with this? PCs existed before the PS4 and the XBO launched.

Funny you mention WoW. At the time of release a lot of Everquest fans switched over because of the great looking open world design. It may not be a looker now, it definitely was in 2004. This was Everquest in 2004

I took tons of screenshots of WoW, upgraded my GPU to run it on max settings. The game looked stunning at the time.

Graphics will still be a talking point. Nothing changes what isn't available already. At the end of ps3/360 with the WiiU already out and PC far ahead, graphics were still discussed the same.

So your saying you hated the PS2 and Wii because they were the weakest in there generation? Graphics doesnt sell consoles it never did, if you games last generation you would know this. Clever marketing and advertisments sells consoles.

The point i am making is since everyone is making a big deal about slight differences between XB1 and PS4, would it still be a talking point if the NX has the better looking 3rd party games and same with the Steam Machines which is a guarantee?

For the record i am a PC gamer yet i choose gameplay over visuals.

Yes, if we were determined enough to adopt new platforms then graphics do matter to an extent to the point where consumers feel that it's good enough (PS4/X1) ...

I highly doubt the NX will beat the PS4 since Nintendo is more obsessed with small form factors rather than getting the best perf/price and steam machines is just another repeat of Ouya ...
