I don't know about the NX (don't even wanna think about it), but if a Wii U version comes, expect below 2 million.

Only 2m? I bet the game will clear that out in 2016 alone. Even Wind Waker HD managed to do it, I can't see how a mainline Zelda would do worse with higher userbase.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

WWHD is almost at 2mil, HW did 1mil in a couple of months. Zelda U a new game is surely going to easily beat those games. 2mil is the minimum

Oh shit. I misread the whole thread XD

I thought this was about Twilight Princess HD, not Zelda U.

Sorry about that. I dumbed out on this one :(

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Didn't we agree that you won't make any kind of lofty Nintendo predictions anymore? It's not good for the herd.

For 8m to happen, Aonuma would have to get things right. But considering that he has established a pattern where he talks about the classic Zelda games to hype people while the final product is some wishy-washy stuff, there isn't any reason to believe that he will deliver what he promised this time either.

The Zelda cycle is real, and the fact of the matter is, his trend of wishy-washy content doesn't matter in terms of sales. Didn't stop TP, didn't stop SS, etc. So on that front OP has some room for validity. TP DID sell 8m over two consoles despite being the worst 3D Zelda until about six months ago when fans decided it was good again. And to Aonuma's credit, the game genuinely seems like it could return to the form that he claims it will.

(Don't take the above comment as indication of my opinion of TP. It's just how Zelda fans think, not me personally.)

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

I think so, if it's Wii U exclusive I expect around 4m

Currently most hyped for: FFXV and Zelda U

LOL. It happens, I think TP HD could 1.5mil

Majora's Mask doesn't qualify for what I said, neither in its original form or as a remake.

A Link Between Worlds does qualify and the game feels indeed like a product of two philosophies. There's the obvious influence from a classic Zelda game (A Link to the Past's overworld), but the dungeon design diverts from the classic as enemy numbers are rather sparse and a good portion of the time is spent solving some simple puzzles. Despite such shortcomings, the game is easily the best of the last four Zelda titles (Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, Skyward Sward are the other three).

You know, the trend isn't positive. The Zelda series still received a lot of goodwill a decade ago, but when many of the recent games were less than stellar, then the reputation starts to crumble. At that point it isn't that easy anymore to get 8m people to buy a new game. There is a reason why Aonuma brings up the classics and not his own games when talking about a new Zelda.

Aonuma spent as much time talking about Wind Waker as he did the original Zelda as a point of comparison for the new game.

I'd like to hear more about Aonuma "talking about the classic Zelda games to hype people up" for PH, ST, and SS. That doesn't sound familiar to me. I recall this being a more recent trend, specifically beginning around the time Link Between Worlds was revealed, for obvious reasons. You yourself said of the game, "This is a Zelda game that cuts most of the nonsense that has infested the series and moves the formula back to what it originally was," which is why I linked to your thread. It sounds like you felt the game delivered on its promise of a classic Zelda experience -- the recycled overworld from ALTTP was actually one of your complaints, so it's not the positive influence from a classic you now make it out to be. Now you call the final product "wishy-washy" and say "there isn't any reason to believe that he will deliver what he promised this time either," as though LBW didn't even come close to living up to your expectations.

On Wii U it will sell 2.5 million. If its comes out on NX it will sell 5-6million.

Not a chance

You are a tough enemy, Enton. That's why I don't like Pokémon.

For what it's worth, I think your LBW review might be the one I most readily identify with. We share some common complaints, despite the fact that I don't hold Zelda 1 in nearly as high regard as you.

Also, since now this is on my mind and I have to mention it, this annoys me:

...... this enrages me:

Not with that art style. It'll do much better by being on NX, but the cartoony art style is still limiting.

Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess hit 7+ million because they were able to draw in "dude bros" type core gamers and those were seen as "event games" on top of just the regular Zelda fans.
