In what universe is Skyward Sword an epic game? It's a boring ugly game with obnoxious controls and the worst world design in any Zelda game. The second SMG isn't all that epic either when it comes to presentation. The space theme gets pushed to the background a lot. If that's epic then so is SM3DW.

Haha, be fair to say you and I see Skyward Sword a lot differently. The game has a lot of wow moments for me - I guess it depends on the perspective you view it from. It's an open question as to which of Skyward Sword or SM3DW is the better game - they're both high quality after all. However, in terms of which is more "epic", then it's obviously Skyward Sword, because it aims for that feeling a lot more.

Edit: I note that I'm seeing a lot of muddling between high quality games and epic games. In my view, those are two different things. Mario Kart 8 is a game of the highest calibre but it's not particularly epic.

I'll agree there. But as for Zelda, only ALTTP, OoT, MM and TP are epic to me. The rest are sillier/less serious (I haven't played the first two Zelda games, so I won't comment on them). That doesn't make them worse, just different.

The 3DS had great games until the end of 2013 and Wii U until end of 2014. They're just buying time until the NX comes out. Games like Mario Maker still give me the old Nintendo feels I yearn for, though

Splatoon is not an epic game. Mario Kart 8 sure. Xenoblade X yes. But not splatoon. It doesn't even have proper matchmaking and restricts you to game modes. Compare this to Team Fortress 2 and you can see why these restrictions put people off.

And Zelda U is probably not going to be an exclusive Wii U title anyway. So the Wii has Metroid Prime 3, Skyward Sword, and 2 Super Mario Galaxy games as exclusive epic single player games while Wii U has none from each series.

Splatoon has flaws, but again I think it's pretty Epic.

Zelda U is game from this generation (not next generation, this one!), it's in development for Wii U from 2012. or even before, but if game isn't exclusive for Wii U we will not count it!? Sorry but that's pretty stupid, especially because point of OP is where is Nintendo with Epic games and that Nintendo decreased Epic games for Wii U.

So we can all agree that we will have at least 3 Epic games on Wii U, Mario Kart 8, Xenoblade X and Zelda U. I dont think Metroid Prime 3 was so Epic, also same could say for Skyward Sword and Mario Galaxy 2, only games that were true epic games on Wii are Mario Galaxy and Xenoblade.

It may be your opinion that these games aren't epic but metacritic and fans would say otherwise.

Of Course I don't think that World Of Goo, Rock Band 2 and 3, Rayman Origins..are epic games.

Wii had quite a few epic titles each year, up until 2012 where they just bought time until the Wii U launched. Wii U still has Xenoblade and Zelda U to look forward to, but the last epic game to this point was definitely Smash. 3DS and Wii U have both disappointed me this year

Splatoon just came out this year, you know.

You should read again. I'm surprised to see so many people in the same camp like me.

You were proven wrong very quickly. That's why pretty much everyone disagrees with you.

plus you don't seem to acknowledge that a Xenoblade game is coming out in a month. Considering the size of it, it's probably Nintendo's most "epic" game of all time.

Just an example of how wrong you are:

I understand exactly what you mean. I can't say that I've been unhappy with the Wii U, but it definitely seems like it is missing those "epic" experiences you mentioned. Honestly for me though, it's always been all about Zelda and Metroid when it comes to Nintendo, so it's easy to see why this gen hasn't been great for me. One of the reasons why I'm probably going to buy a PS4 this year...I need some of those epic adventure games that Nintendo used to make.

I know. I don't know where they are. It seems like they go for the less ambitious route most of the time this gen. Early 3DS still had it though. On WiiU, of what's released, it seems of the big franchises only Mario Kart 8 exceeds it's predecessors in scale and grandeur.

Yep, there are few. MK8 seems like a good game praised by the fans (you know my opinion) and Xenoblade could be epic, but as majority of us have not played, so we cannot say.

But yes, ambition seems like it was one of the major lacks with the Wii U library.

This thread was created amidst the development of Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and the same year that Splatoon and Super Mario Maker debuted. What a crazy perspective lol! (Though this was also amidst Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival, Metroid Federation Force, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, Star Fox Zero, Mario Party 10, Hey Pikmin,… oomphf what a dismal time to have been a Nintendo fan.)

For a moment I thought this was a ragebait thread...I mean it is but 2015 is a more reasonable time to be upset. Wii U was in a downfall. 2015 was a rough year for some Nintendo franchises. They just had their worse E3 in years if not ever.  Pissed off every Metroid fan with Blastball then reveal wish.com Rocket League is a Metroid tie in game no one wants lol.  Still we got Xenoblade X that year. Splatoon and Mario Maker. So not all bad. Starfox Zero was a dud. They pissed of AC fans with Amiibo Fest. Pissed on any Chibi Robo fan with Ziplash.  Oh and Code Name Steam. Rocky times for Nintendo fans.  11 years later may as well be 30 years later. Nintendo's in the best position they've ever been in.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Yeah 2015 was arguably an all time low for Nintendo fans.

Wii U was a dead man walking it just seemed like they'd completely lost touch with their audience and couldn't get anything right.

Thank God the seeds of their resurgence had already been planted behind the scenes, it just took a while longer for it to germinate.
