Forums - Sales - Destiny Hits 25 Million Players (Up 5 million in 3 months)

Just for reference, My bro bought Destiny, played a few hours, didn't like the game so he sold it to me... played a few games,, didn't really liked it nor hated it but I lend it to a friend which still has the game... in essence, one copy for 3 players, I think every multiplayer games data are basically the same.

I'm guessing a lot of people gave away their copies of Destiny. Its useless for those upgrading to Taken King, so that could boost numbers.

No, even if you have the Taken King DLC, you still either need a digital version of vanilla Destiny or the actualt game disc in your disc drive to play the new content. Those who had the vanilla game and previous DLCs bought the Taken King for $40 and still needed to keep their original disc around to keep playing.

I think you're assuming everyone bought a $40 digital copy. I think many that bought a physical copy of Destiny again opted for a physical copy of Taken King.

The original version of Destiny has become cheap. People are probably giving/lending copies to friends. So that's boost numbers.

These numbers don't really mean a lot and for whatever reason Bungie doesn't wanna talk sales.

I hate it when there are numbers and they don't share them.
Why don't they provide an api for showing how many concurrent players, spilt by platform?
Every once in a while they spit out “awesome“ numbers but leaving out other data is just weird. And of course it doesn't mean in any way that they sold 25 million copies, nor does that mean this is even remotely near how many people play the game.

There is also a demo. If you download the demo im pretty sure activision already counts you as an "player".

Congragts bungie.

If People play average 3h a day the 25M can't be too far from sales number because that would need some People playing too much to keep this average.

The news comes as part of the company's official earnings report, with more information expected to come out of an investor call scheduled for later today.

Has that happened yet?

Why don't they just announce actual sales numbers instead of how many people have played the game? -___-

Seems to be the new trend with multi-player games.

Im not really donwplaying it. the game sodl around 11 million on platforms. It has 25 million users so that means the friends made account and peopel have more than one account.

Source? The game is possible way north of 11 million sales.

The last estimate was 13 million early this year... now you can thing something close to 18 million or more.

I put in the OP.

"On September 15, 2015, Activision Publishing and Bungie released The Taken King, the largest update to the Destiny universe yet, which was enthusiastically received by fans and critics alike. Day-one downloads broke PlayStation records, day-one engagement saw the highest number of active players in Destiny's history, daily player engagement is now well above 3 hours per day and the Destiny community has climbed to over 25 million registered players. Since its launch, Destiny has become the most watched console game on Twitch."

Just to people thing...

UK only (where we have data) Destiny is selling at retails a avg. of 5k copies per week.
That not counting the release of TTK that boost the sales for a lot of weeks.
