Forums - Website Topics - Of gameboy game sales, Wikipedia, and verifiability?

I'm trying to clean up some of the messes regarding the Game Boy articles on wikipedia, starting with Alleyway at the moment. I originally involved data from here to compare the US launch title sales in that article, but got hit with a statement that the data is invalid due to the source.

I read the site's methodology page, but WP's issue seems to rely on an exact source of those figures (i.e. The Magic Box leaning on Famitsu). Is there any way I can get that reference information from you guys so that I'd be able to use the figures.

Additionally, is there any chance you would have an end production list regarding games? Basically meaning when they were no longer being sold or out of print, and if you don't have it possibly know somewhere to point me to?

Thanks for your time.

VGC doesn't have full data about launch titles in America from anything older than the DS/PSP. neither does it have any data for Gameboy sales in America apart from a liftime total using shipment data.

What about Japan sales data then? If I can fall back on that much it's better than nada. And the shipment data total would probably be helpful too if I can cite it.

This is what I found from Nintendo's site... unfortunately I can't find any fiscal reports older than 2003, but this does at least give you a proper source for the sales.

http://www.nintendo.com/corp/report/fiscal2003.pdf

If you scroll to page 48-52 the info you want about LTD sales is there (before you edit Wiki let me check the later reports to make sure they didn't ship more Gameboys after 2003)

ummm... WP doesn't consider VGChartz a reliable source. That's why they don't want you using the numbers here. Personally, I don't know WHY they don't consider VGChartz a reliable source, but they do. sorry.
And welcome to VGChartz.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

Damn, clumps it together though when I need something more individual regarding the games thesmselves.

@Retrasado: Aware of that, but trying to get any actual individual info I can that they can accept :P

Yah, I feel your pain. I worked toward getting PlayStation 3 to FA status, and that was REALLY fun....

Ok here we go:
http://www.nintendo.com/corp/report/NintendoAnnualReport2005.pdf

First remember that Nintendos fiscal years end March the 31st of that year, so Fiscal 2003 ended March 31st 2003.

From what I can gather the GB hardware was discontinued in fiscal 2003 or earlier (may have been fiscal 2002, but I can't find the report for that)

Software wise there were still games being shipped to America in fiscal 2004... and in Japan and "other" regions in fiscal 2005.

Here are the totals by region for hardware and software:

 Americas Others Japan Total
Hardware 44.06 42.16 32.47 118.69
Software
190.61 153.43 157.06 501.10

(numbers in millions of units)

------

Also another little tidbit is that it passed 100 million hardware units during fiscal 2000 (April 1999 - March 2000)

Unfortunately there is very little info regarding game sales all I know is that Tetris was definately a launch title, and the best source you could find for specific games sales is in fact VGC, but only for Japan: http://vgchartz.com/japtotals.php?name=&console=GB&maker=&disp=American+Name&boxartz=3

For lifeftime sales the million selling software table gives the best info, which I think is mostly from manufacturer shipment numbers, but you would have to ask ioi for details on specific games. Also i'm not sure it includes all the games that sold over 1 million.
