Forums - Sales - UK: Halo 5 is the Lowest Selling Mainline Game in Franchise History

I will tell you why I haven't jumped on the Halo bang wagon this gen yet compared to previous generations.

Simply because they fucked up The Master Chief Collection. Their obsession to get all 4 games onto 1 disc instead of 2 games per disc pissed me off that you needed to download 20gbs to get the complete experience. A half asses job is not how you should CELEBRATE your best franchise on your systems.

90% of sales are digital,.. the real number is 1.5M just in the UK. ..and rightfully so for the greatest Halo ever made.

If the game sold worse than any other mainline halo in UK, it's pretty safe to assume the decline happened in all Europe territories considering xb1 userbase elsewhere except US. Don't see this game reaching 10m unless it's heavily bundle for the rest of the gen. 8m is my prediction.

8 million is very very generous.  The user base of xbox1 is at 14 million after 2 years.  I'm not sure if xbox1 will get to 50 million user base lifetime.  About 3 years from now, it is very doubtful that xbox1 will be at 40 million.  Assuming best case scenario that in 2018 there are 40 million xbox1 consoles sold, that's a monsterous 20% attachment rate for 8 million Halo 5 copies to be sold.

Don't forget that Halo 2 sold over 8 million on an install base less than 25 million.

Even lower than ODST.

That's because they only counted physical version of the game and they havent included digital version on that time there was no digital version of games either there you go

historically Halo has easily exceeded that attach rate on various releases. whether it will this time though I am not so sure. Will be very hard to track though as only MS will have numbers due to high number of digital sales. So we are reliant on them telling us the numbers.

Its called digital sales. Which for some of the biggest publishers makes up as much as 60% of their total sales. Also doesnt factor in bundles. Nice try tho. Common sense people. Use it.

Is it me, or was the marking not as big for Halo 5? For Halo Reach and Halo 4, I remember seeing ads absolutely everywhere.

For everyone saying, "It's digital sales, dummy," keep this in mind: Destiny was a much bigger launch event and only had a "massive" 20% of copies sold digitally, which vastly exceeded the industry average of 12%. The high end was usually around 15%, so that should give you a relatively good barometer of what to expect. Since that launch, digital console sales have been up 29%, but that is an all-inclusive number (DLCs, micro transactions, etc.). In a perfect world (for MS) scenario Halo 5 would reach not only Destiny's digital sales anomaly, but also represent that 29% bump, for an otherworldly 25.8% digital sales percentage.

cant say shit about the games quality cause i havent played it

but i believe part of the problem is that those who were into halo are much older now and either not into gaming or fatigued from the franchise also xb1 user base could have something to do with it

Day One digital, because of pre-loading. We all know how horrendous it is installing Xbone games. I'm sure many people pre-loaded a week ahead to bypass this poor design. 😉 It's all part of M$es plan towards an all digital future, making disc installs unbearable. 😆

Actually I believe the install speed is directly related to the DRM embedded when the game is installed on a X1.  Since MS allow you play and store their games on external drives, their encryptions and DRM is a little more robust which of course hampers install speed.  No proof of this part just yet but researching.
