Forums - Movies & TV - Trekkers of Vgchartz, do you secretly hope that the new Star Wars movie does bad? I propose a strike of the movie

What? Why would you forbid people from going to the new Star Wars? I'm a Star Wars fan, but I went to see both new Star Trek films in the cinéma and I enjoyed them. This kind of fanboyism is BS anyway.

Surely, he is being satirical...right?

I personally think that all Star Wars movies are incredibly overrated. The only reason I enjoy them at all is Harrison Ford. I also LOVE the new Star Trek movies and can't wait for more of those. That being said...I hope this new Star Wars movie is amazing. Why would you want anything different?

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

I prefer Star Wars, loved 1-3 and 4-6 were decent with the 4th being the worst and 6th being the best of the new trilogy. I am hyped for the 7th and have pre-bought my tickets!!!

With Episode 7 streaming on Netflix after 8 months I will probably be watching this over and over for quite some time... I will end up buying it also I mean... what happens if the internet goes out? :-p

Was never a fan of ST or SW (not that I disliked them) but the new Star Trek movies are very well done whereas the last 3 SW movies were...yeah.

This is silly and I like both as I am a Sci-fi fan and WE all do great at the box office.

Hate to break it to you, but Episode VII will blow past $1B and probably do close to $2B worldwide, whether its amazing or terrible.

But then again, those numbers really aren't that impressive when you look at the huge steaming pile of $hit that is the current top 10 grossing films worldwide...

Highest-grossing films[13]
Rank Peak Title Worldwide gross Year Reference(s)
1 1 Avatar $2,787,965,087 2009 [# 1][# 2]
2 1 Titanic $2,186,772,302 1997 [# 3][# 4]
3 3 Jurassic World $1,665,443,636 2015 [# 5][# 6]
4 3 The Avengers $1,519,557,910 2012 [# 7][# 8]
5 4 Furious 7 $1,514,827,481 2015 [# 9][# 10]
6 5 Avengers: Age of Ultron $1,402,805,868 2015 [# 11][# 10]
7 3 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 $1,341,511,219 2011 [# 12][# 13]

10 10 Minions $1,154,357,663 2015 [# 18]

We know about Dances With Smurfs and Iceberg Right Ahead! already in that list... but Jurrasic World?  Both Avengers movies?  FURIOUS 7???????

Episode VII will easily be the best of that bunch, hands down.

Damn! Universal is doing well this year. Makes me relieved that the Nintendo theme park will have a wealthy and relevant collaborator in the future.

These new star wars trailers remind me of the old movies and damn im such a huge fanboy on the francise.
That said ,i really hope it does well !

No, I do not. I am a fan of both. I don't care if it will make a billion. It will do this no matter what. There's too much hype for this new movie to screw it over. People buy a $200 magnet ball robot, before the movie is even out. Nor do I care if it does. It doesn't invalidate Star Trek all of a sudden.

No, I hope it's a worthy successor, sells great and shows Star Trek how respecting the spirit of the source material, and not just names/characters/tech, makes a better film.

I do not like how Paramount treated the later STNG movies. Not sure how you go from Generations and First Contact to all that other garbage. But I am glad they have made a comeback. Too bad it seems only one director can get it right these days.

Easily explained, if you watched the bonus features. It's the writers. Not the studio. Generations mind set - wrap up series, baton pass. FC - Action movie - fun compared to last one. Insurrection - use Gene's main ideals - ends up feeling like a long TNG episode. Nemesis - We tried everything already - reuse something popular, to get more people to come back. Into Darkness still knocks on this door. So the new ones aren't perfect either.

There's an art to these threads. I am never unimpressed. (Still on to you.)
