Forums - Sony - I watched my first Blu ray Movie on 1080P TV

1080p set and a netflix account is better than owning a movie theater. Not sure how long it takes for the XBox to cost more. (edit) Not long.. at $8/month plus $6/movie, the cheapest (2/month) netflix account is cheaper than the account itself, and if you watch three, the $9/month plan is unlimited. (and those three movies would be $26 all together, rather than $9).

HD movies are definitely better. But not worth the price of admission for me yet.

Though I own a ps3 i see where you're coming from. I think most people think the players and movies are still too expensive.

(even though you told me to go buy a PC when i asked for kb&m controls for PS3 Red Alert 3 on digg )

"1080i>1080p shouldn't be that much of a difference, far less than 480p>1080i, unless you had a superb upscaler. "

He had an CRT 1080i. HD CRTs simply suck (yes I know better colors yada yada), doesn't have anything to do with the resolution.

crts are actually better in pretty much every way the problem is that they are large (not flat panel) and they don't make them bigger than 36"

and u aren't gonna notice as much of a difference on a <37" tv as you will on a 50+" tv

but same-size crt picture is better than lcds in pretty much every way

There is a reason why CRT HDTV are not bigger than 36". LCD are a lot more sharper especially on the sides of the screen since a crt loses sharpness the more the ray is bend. Also a crt flashes while a lcd doesn't so it a lot easier on the eyes. LCD has less glare and better image brightness as well the ability to lower the backlight according to the surrounding light

The only advantage CRT has that I can think of would be:

1) true colors (lcd comes up a little short)

2) Pixels are not fited so it can run different resolutions by adjusting the amount of pixels. Thus can upscale faster and better.

Hehe, yeah, well, it's still my opinion that RTSs on consoles are a waste of time with kb&m, and it's apparently going to be a while before console developers fully utilize that option.

I could afford an HD player and the discs, but

A) I don't want to go and re-buy my favorites in my collection again, and
B) It's not a priority for me, as DVD is ok with me.  I'm really not missing much other than some additional detail.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Agreed about RTS sucking on consoles.  RTS is my favorite genre, and it pains me to see games like BFMEII and SupCom ported to consoles, and I'm sure they made far more than just control sacrifices with the latter title.

Apart from the fact that I never had a problem with too concave or convex, wrongly adjusted, moiree effects etc. images on an LCD monitor.
Since the CRT "projects" the image on a screen with a slot mask you do not have the 1 theoretical pixel is one physical pixel on the screen sharpness advantages you get on LCDs.

There is a reason LCDs took over for PC monitors first where sharpness is the most important property. And even if a brand-new, perfectly adjusted CRT monitor would be competitive the darn things often get grey and blurred with age. LCD monitors on the other hand will stay the same and loose perhaps a few pixels.
LCD monitors are just much better for the digital world.
