| LuckyTrouble said: Tales never really left PlayStation. The series has had an off and on relationship with Nintendo, and none of the Nintendo released titles have remained exclusive to Nintendo systems. |
ah okay, its very exciting. thanks for your comment!!

This is the main issue with the series. Quality level is volatile. It ranges from great to average.
The actual great Tales games i have played have been 3. Symphonia, Abyss and Vesperia. They are the reason i buy Tales games.
But theres an even greater number of average or sometimes bordering the bad Tales games. Graces, Eternia, Xillia, Symphonia 2, Xillia 2, Zesteria (havent finished yet but it seems to be heading this way aswell).
I have not touched Hearts R yet. Some fans say Phantasia and Destiny are great, but i will just write them off as old school classics. Too dated for anyone to enjoy alot.
Anyways... back on topic. Its alot like the main FF series. Filled with gems and duds. The series needs consistency and Baba felt too burned by Vesperia, but that game and its cell-shaded graphics were the correct way to go for the series. The current titles present inferior graphics and ever since moving from the classic world map structure bland, empty envyronments. I don't expect this to change with Berseria, but most of all the combat needs to be 2D in nature. All the great Tales games have used it and the combat system from Graces and Zestiria is a mistake. It gets way too spammy and loses its technicality. Good Tales combat is extending your own damage combos, not just gang banging on the enemy.

Basically my view on Graces and Xillia. Really wish it would go back to the promising future that was Vesperia. Xillia wasn't as bad as Graces for me, but it wasn't exactly great. I think I will wait with Zestiria, maybe get it on sale.

I really liked Xillia 1 and 2. I agree that Graces was so so. Vesperia is one of my favorites. I really like Yuri Lowell as a protagonist.

Yuri was like a breath of fresh air for the whole genre. My problem with Xillia is that when it felt like it was getting started...it basically ended, I really should get 2.

I can't say myself, since admittedly I haven't played a Tales Of game, but i plan to start with Abyss when i get it this Christmas :)

My favorite video game series. There isn't a single Tales title I've disliked. And so far Zestiria is ok. Not great, but solid.
Vesperia and Destiny probably being my favorites. Though Graces remains unmatched in gameplay.

That is my opinion too. And Zesteria has a nice story with cool characters :) Xillia was cool (1).
