I've seen worse experiences.

Ever see stories of people working at technical support for places like Verizon?

Some people can just make your brain melt.

or Apple.  I had a friend that worked customer service for Apple.  He was so good that he was eventually hired on from the temp agency and given an Apple computer to work from home.  I went over to his place one time and he showed me some macros he had for responses.  One macro was something like fuckoff and it spewed a wall of text at the customer which eventually had them turn off their device and turn it back on.  In doing so it would disconnect them from chat and be gone.  I asked him about him being worried about mistyping the macro and he said he never makes a mistake on mistyping it.  It would be funny if he messed up and something like fcukoff came on the customer's screen.

So, as you called yourself in the op, you're a major sony fan, and when the customer asks, which isnbetter, iPhone or Galaxy phone, you let the Sony fan in you try to push a Sony phone down his throat, and when he wasn't interested, because, well, he never asked for a Sony phone, you got pissed and found the customer to be so annoying? Hmm, yeah, the customer was the annoying one, you're right.

Finally a sane comment. Everyone here is acting like the customer commited a crime when actually the op is just annoyed that the guy rejected his favorite brand.

He asked for a Samsung or an Iphone. It's so annoying when you want to decide between two options and people bring out another option you never asked for.

Its not like he was "fuck those 2 get a Sony."

He asked him what criteria he wanted so he could tell him if he wanted a Samsung or an iPhone it turns out there was another phone that was perfect for his criteria so he made him aware of it.

Isn't the Galaxy S5 waterproof?  He probably should have just told him to get a S5.  Or is that too old these days

I mentioned earlier in the thread he couldve suggested the s5 but it has shit battery life.

Well the customer did ask which one of the two brands had what they were looking for.

No, he asked what was better a Samsung or an iPhone,

being an employee in order to assertain which would be better for him because there is no 'BEST PHONE' the customer describes his needs and he suggested the phone that fitted his needs absolutely perfectly.

The customer in turn actually doesn't care what phone is perfect for his use and just wanted to be told which to get based on 0 criteria.

That's what's frustrating.

haha if a guy comes into your store and asks for a specific thing, A or B, the quality customer service thing is not necessarily to suggest something totally out of left field

it's like a guy going into Taco Bell and asking about the difference between hard and soft varations of tacos and then you say 'the burrito is more filling, why don't you try that?'

it can be equally annoying to the customer and in the end it's the employee that needs to please the customer, not vice versa. I'm sure that customer is aware of the Sony brand but clearly they don't resonate with him/her

I can assure you someone who walks into a store and says "Samsung or iPhone" they don't really know much about phones..

And no that's an awful comparison its like going into a store and saying cod or titanfsll?

What do you like?

Well I usually like big giant Sci fi battles with large maps and vehicles?

Well star wars battlefront is out so that might be best for your tastes.

I think that's perfectly valid.

Working a retail position was one of the most infuriating experiences in my life. Customers are incredibly rude and constantly think they know better about certain things. Got to love when you offer them a superior product (from any manufacturer) and they're like "Nahh, my friend said X" even though all the information is wrong. Then again, it's their money, and they're allowed to spend it the way they want. All I ask is for respect - both ways, which barely ever happens.

So the customer asked for the difference between A and B, and you give them C. It seems like you completely failed to answer the initial question they had and instead defaulted to your own personal bias. It's not a bad thing to push product C, but at least answer the customer's initial concern first. I'd say the fault lies with you and not the customer in this case.

Current gaming platforms - Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, New 3DS, PC

to be honest, I'd take an LG or Nexus over them any day. No bloatware, great cameras, doesn't cost 700+ dollars, and removable battery+SD card.

He tried to answer the question by asking him what his criteria was for the phone. So he suggested something that checked all the boxes. You'd have a point if the conversation was

"Samsung or iPhone"
"Xperia Z5"
"What?"
"Xperia Z5, You're welcome"

I can believe that, so dumb.
