Forums - Nintendo - Wii to Launch in South Korea May 5?

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/18/report-wii-coming-to-south-korea-by-may-5/

We've known for a while now that Nintendo was planning to bring the Wii to PC-gaming mecca South Korea some time this year, but recent word has it that the system may be hitting the country's shores sooner than later. The Korea Times is reporting that Nintendo and Activision recently registered two Wii games each with Korea's Game Rating Board. The paper speculates this move means Nintendo Korea is looking to launch by Children's Day on May 5, a popular gift-giving holiday in the country. Though there's no official announcement from Nintendo, we can't think of a better holiday to launch for a system known for kid-friendly games like Super Mario Galaxy and Resident Evil 4.

May is going to be quite interesting for Nintendo if this is true.  Wii Fit, Wii Ware, coming off the heels of  Mario Kart...looks like Gamestop may be on to something about Wiis being out of stock for six more months.

Depending on how many they and other world launches get it explains the difference between know sold figures and 1.8m/month production figures.

This means from now on, there will be no more Wii's in stock... forever...and ever, and ever...

(Seriously, how the hell is Nintendo going to keep up with production for SK if they can't even manage it for the rest of the world!?!)

it think this is why wii hasnt been selling 1.8 million a month, they been saving for the launch in S.K and china

Many posters on this site have been saying the same thing...but others refuse to concede that it could be possible.  Here's fuel for the fire.

^Actually, I just thought about that after I posted... It would explain how right after a small down time, Wii sales skyrocketed, then dropped off. They could have began saving for SK!

Kid friendly titles like...Resident Evil 4?? With all the casual games on the wii, they could've picked something more family friendly.

Isn't it suppose to launch in china too. Even though china's population is large you know everybody has a vii. So I could see 1-3 million wiis being sold there. How well did ps2 sell in china/southkorea

I've never heard Resident Evil 4 described as a kid's game.
