I tried watching one of the 'gatari' series (I assume they are all related, even if not directly?) and just stopped halfway because it was so damn boring, even though it had such a good premise.

Katanagatari has nothing to do with the monogatari series. Strangely enough it has a pretty similar style.

OT: Great characters and quite slow paced. Perfect chill anime with a fascinating story, carried by strong characters. Certainly not a generic or mediocre anime.

I probably won't do you any good in commenting since it has been years since I watched it.

In my opinion the best thing I ever watched in my life.

For some reason I have a hard time starting Katanagatari despite loving the monogatari series anime and wanting to start Zaregoto.
I would probably pick it if the light novels got translated though. Is the anime the full story ? If so how could they adapt 12 LNs into a 12 episodes anime without it being terrible ?

I only want to say: Women are complicated

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

I only had the chance to watch the first two episodes but I've enjoyed what I've seen so far. I'm hoping to finish it in the near future.

Wasn't expecting a thread like this but I have watched it and really liked it. I agree that it had this weird sense that made you feel calm. The last episode was fantastic especially the castle part.

Calm it is, but in a most twisted way. Glad you're one of us, apparently we're in the small minorities.

Small it is but it definitely is an anime with a high rating. It has a 8.52 on myanimelist which a very high rating which very few get that high.

What's strange about two series from the same author having the same style ?

All I know about it is that Taku Iwasaki did the soundtrack and Lay Back is great

It was very good. I liked how dark it became, when all the secrets started leaking out. Main female was awesome, one of the most interesting female characters in anime that I've seen. I can't remember many details, though, as I watched it when it came out.
