Forums - Gaming - Does XB1 still have any chance of winning October NPD?

Lets not get ahead of ourselves, Halo 5 hasn't actually released, many people will wait until its released and MS could still announce a standard halo bundle. I still think XB1 will win, it'll just be a lot closer than people might have originally thought.

A few things to keep in mind is:

1. A lot of the people who want Halo 5 already have an XB1. Not all, or even most, but a lot. This will effect the hardware sales, but not the software sales.

2. PS4 just got a price drop

3. Both consoles have good bundles, but the PS4 has the better pricing and more LE units.

I won't say no,but I think it has a much less chance now than it did before.

That is not true.

Preorders counts for Oct NPD.

30% chance IMO

Without MS doing a price cut I'd say there's only a slim chance. I don't think they should tho, go for profits and trust your product even if Sony would win.

Just makes me wonder why there isn't a better deal or bundle for X1 + Halo5. That 499$ is a lot and I don't know if anyone but hardcore Halo fans are willing to pay that much.

I think the Xbox One's still got a shot at taking October, but that does largely depend on how many pre-ordered bundles are going to get redeemed and picked up come Halo 5's release day. Even if, as some have suggested, the game's lost a bit of its console-selling luster/most who want it already have an Xbox One, there is probably going to still be a bigger Day One boost than there's been for nearly any other single Xbox One bundle thus far. It's got the long-developed fanbase and hype and, unlike Titanfall or previous CoD bundles for example, there's no PC or 360 release to spread out the fanbase. (Though again, only my opinion.)

That being said, props to Sony for the go-getter approach! People kept wondering if a price drop would have been announced at the end of this month, but I think they knew that announcing and implementing a price drop that late in October would drastically reduce the chances of it actually helping them WIN October. Having it go down this early on is going to let them spend the next few weeks building up a good head of steam while taking full advantage of the initial rush of post-pricecut sales, widening the gap with the Xbox One as much as humanly possible to maximize the odds that Halo 5 won't let Microsoft catch up.

It's quite interesting, October's NPD will definitely be one of the most interesting to date. =O

Releases October 20th

The fact the discussion for October has become about whether Microsoft has a chance speaks volumes. Its not like people dont know that Halo is coming. So obviously the real problem is that Sony was winning before the price cut. If Amazon is anything to go by, the Xbox One is going to have to pick up sales quite substantially. Therefore, I believe that the PS4 will win October.

November is the real problem for Microsoft. The fact that Star Wars and COD bundles are outpacing everything else in November will require a massive cut from Microsoft.

Nope. The PS4 got a price cut. I'm sure that's gonna eclipse whatever the xbox one has going for it this month.
