You may be seeing it as simply as that, but I've always looked at Amazons predictive value in more depth. So the top selling sku has a high predictive value, but there are circumstances where it falters, and then you have to go into a bit more depth to see what Amazon is really telling you. This month I don;t think we can say what Amazon is telling us at least until we get the final monthly chart. You say Amazon has been wrong once, I say Amazon was right in that month. We're both right it just depends on what you chose to measure.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with speculation concerning positions, amounts or preorders, but we see Amazon as either wrong or right and that has always been based on who leads in the monthlies and who actually wins that month. We are now waiting to see who won this month and it will be based on what Amazon has at the top of the monthlies. I've even said myself that preorders could effect this month and so make Amazon wrong, but it's still accepting that Amazon could be wrong based on which console leads in the monthlies. It's been this way for 2 years now and I haven't got a clue why people want to change it. Keep it simple as far as Amazon predictions go. It doesn't mean we can't debate why Amazon was wrong, but to be fair to the spirit of Amazon threads, that's the view we'd have to take: that it was wrong. If we start arguing that it wasn't wrong based on 'a', 'b' and 'c' then the Amazon prediction is made redundant.

I can't agree with you GG. We have to factor in other positions. Before it was about 1 or 2 sku's because that's all that was on the market. You're making it to simple and nothing wrong with complicating it a little, it's good to try and work it out.

For me Amazon got April right despite a few people claiming it's wrong ( there's also people claiming the opposite). If xbox is in 10th and PS4 is in 11th &12th, I'm giving the win to PS4 because that's what the rankings suggest.

If you want to simplify it, fine, don't try and make others to.

Halo bundle dropped faster than I thought it would. Here's hoping Microsoft can rebound for November; a big challenge considering how much firepower Sony has for that month. I am not too sure if Fallout and Halo and going to enough to win the month. Keeping it competitive for certain, but winning it is going to be quite hard to achieve.

I guess Sony did NOT need Uncharted 4 this holiday....

It really is and was that simple. Why are people wanting to change it? Amazon has been wrong once, people on here knew it and people on Gaf knew it but now all of a sudden Amazon was never wrong because of 'a', 'b' and 'c'. We're now changing the goalposts and have taken the fun out of this thread. It's now nothing more than constant speculation without a defining result because no result is defining, just a reason to find out how to make Amazon look right when it was wrong. It was always simple and therefore 'fun':

Whoever was at the top of the monthlies was Amazon's prediction of who won the month. It's been wrong once so far (well it used to be wrong once but now we can make it right).

This is unbelievable. You guys are making Amazon pointless. Amazon has now been right every single time, including April, because of 'a', 'b' and 'c'. Why is Amazon known to have been wrong once? You people are overcomplicating what was a very simple concept.

If the PS4 is ahead of the XB1 in the monthlies and the XB1 wins then Amazon will have been wrong for the second time. If the PS4 is ahead of the XB1 in the monthlies and the PS4 wins then Amazon will have been right yet again. This is how it's always been judged and I haven't got a clue why some people now want to complicate this simple fact.

Whichever console leads the Amazon chart is seen as the winner of the month.

The Amazon rankings only show how products sell relative to each other, not how much they actually sell. For instance, one PS4 SKU is ranked #10 and two XBO SKUs are ranked #20 and #40. It appears that the PS4 is selling more since it is the highest ranked SKU, but we don't know how large of a difference there is between each SKU. The PS4 could have sold 100 units with the XBO SKUs selling 40 and 20 units. However, what if the the XBO SKUs sold 80 and 40 units?

Looks like you're sucking the "fun" out of it with your ranting over something so trivial. To me it stupid to declare the winner on who is on top and doesn't make sense in the real world. Like I said in the past it was much more simple with only a few bundles about (most of the time just one bundle vrs one bundle) but when you have over 10 bundles in the top 100 at some points, it doesn't make sense to discount the sales of the other 8 or so bundles and look at the top 2.

Are you seriously telling ME this? I'm the person who constantly reminds people of this. Amazon has always been judged to be right or wrong based on which console is at the top of the monthlies when the final update hit. It's been wrong once and right every other time. It was wrong in April and everyone spoke of it being wrong in April. Why was it wrong in April? Because it had the PS4 at the top of the monthlies. It was right every other time. Why was it right every other time? Because the console that lead the monthlies won the month on NPD.

Um, okay.... let's calm down for a moment. There is really no need to be belligerent.

I wouldn't say Amazon was wrong in April. There were two XBO SKUs that finished close behind the PS4, with one of them just one rank lower. Because there was such as small gap (in terms of ranking) between the two XBO SKUs, it was logical to assume that the XBO sold more.

Wow this amazon chart tracking is more serious than i first thought
