Saw the IGN review and it didn't look thaaaaat bad.
If they iron out the glitches I might still get it for $5 in a few months

Aye if it was a budget psn/xbla title the quality of it would be acceptable... but a $60 retail release should never be in this sorry state.

Okay, I'm guilty. Sometimes I just come in here for a good laugh and then leave... hope nobody actually bought this!

36% is way too high.

a game like this should get 13%.

I think this could be the end for the series that has taken many hits over past decade. I don't get why this formula is so hard to do.

My take. They try to make something new. Brainstorm to hell. Find an idea, and start building the game. Then more ideas get thrown in while it's being made. Because someone says it's to simlair to this etc. Then the cook ends up selling pancakes that are green, water that's syrup. And dishes made of bacon.

PS4 Reviews (36%):

Reviewer: Description Of Review: Score:
Hardcore Gamer A mess. While the mechanics are slightly unpolished, they still have a similar feel to what we’ve come to expect, which can result in some enjoyable antics. Unfortunately, they are contained in a constrained formula where the player must navigate menu after menu to get into repetitive and uninteresting missions. 40%
Cheat CodeCentral Avoid this one like the Black Plague. 30%
Game Revolution Its moments of thrilling gameplay and competition-rich multiplayer are sideswiped by bad performance, the poor implementation of Slam, and frequent glitches. The series might have once had potential to be revived, but Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 makes sure that all signs of life have been squeezed out of it. 40%
The Jimqusition This is something we’d make fun of if it was on Desura for ten bucks, and that’s when this stops being a funny game and starts becoming offensive – because it isn’t on Desura for ten dollars. It’s a full-priced, $59.99 MSRP, retail “AAA” production bearing Tony Hawk’s name and proudly published by Activision...It’s really, atrociously unacceptable once that sinks in. 20%
Shacknews The graphics are two console generations old, it suffers bad level design, and missions are uninspiring throughout all stages. What makes this whole experience sting even more is the fact that this bad game has so many obvious issues, that even getting through it for the sake of a review was difficult. 10%
Playstation Lifestyle Despite the fun character customizations, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 suffers from a number of issues, including laggy multiplayer, dipping frame-rates, and off-putting physics. Sorry, Tony, but nostalgia can’t save you this time. 40%

If Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 were a budget game, I'd have a hard time recommending it to anyone. At full retail price, it's a disgrace. Labeling this as the fifth entry in the series has effectively backfired: it's a constant reminder of how much greater the originals were, and how much you'd rather be playing them instead.

Game Rant Fans of previous games will likely see it as a slap in the face. 20%
IGN Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5’s rare moments of nostalgic joy are drowned out by its abundance of poorly thought out levels, control problems, bugs, and its glaring lack of attitude. It boggles the mind that a $60 game in 2015 can be riddled with so many technical issues. 35%
Game Informer The game's reality, however, constantly reminds you that this isn't the Tony Hawk you remember. Inconsistent framerate, textures that pop in, and physics quirks that launch you into the sky mar the experience regularly. 65%
Push Square Die-hard fans yearning for some Pro Skater action will find that, despite all of its problems, there's still some enjoyment to be had here – even if it should have been so much more. 50%
We Got That Covered A glitchy mess and an absolute chore to play, and should have never been released like this. 20%

There are flashes of brilliance, but much of that is piggybacking off of the foundation its predecessors have already created.

USgamer The tragedy is that THPS5 gives us a tantalizing glimpse of the game's full potential - but doesn't realize it. With an online mode that really meant something, with better presentation and graphics, with more interesting and imaginative missions, with a more comprehensive create-a-skater, and more intuitive create-a-park mode, this could have been a truly great game. But sadly it's lacking in all those areas. 50%

One of gaming's greatest series bails horribly, loses its high score and sinks to a depressing new low. Truly awful.

Arcade Sushi Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 is a failure in almost every way a game can be a failure. Terrible level design, rampant glitches, minimal content, janky gameplay, and a complete lack of polish all mar what's (hopefully) the final entry in a previously great series. 20%

So what do you guys think? Is this game a possible turd of the year winner?

Seems that almost all of the big reviewers are done with this on metacritic now, final scores seem to have not changed in a few days so unless there is a mega patch it seems this is destined to remain an Academic failure. At least the PS4 version which after 32 reviews has come to a final score of... 33% average. The Xbox1 suffering slightly less hate but just because it has less reviews clocked up on metacritic I think at 13 reviews leaving it with an average score of 41% for the X1, Absolute disaster end to the series. Was so sad to see this bomb I actually picked up a copy of THPS3 for the original Xbox in CEX here (for 2 euros) and blasted through the whole thing loving every minute of the classic goals/soundtrack/humour and the fact that it isn't a €75 euros (no shitting you that is the cost of THPS5 in gamestop here) mess.

Edit - FYI most of the original THPS games work perfectly on the X360 backwards compatibility, I have THPS3/4 and THUG 1/2, 4 suffers a bit of slowdown at times but no where near as bad as THPS5 :D Just if people are jonesing for some good Tony Hawks action and has a decent 2nd hand game store near by. (or ebay)

Why does Activision have to fuck up everything?

I really don't feel comfortable with Activision owning the Crash Bandicoot IP. I want a new game, but at the same time - I'm scared. Can anyone please buy their old IPs before they ruin them?
Naughty Dog, Sony, buy him back before it's too late, you owe it to him!

That was the thing with this game I think, the licence was about to run out on it so they pumped out this piece of shit to keep it active. How hard would it have been to just re release HD versions of the previous games?.... I guess really hard considering the soundtracks but still, just the game code and new music should have been easy enough and less costly than this franchise destroying junk game. Unless of course Activision done it deliberately to weaken the value of the franchise to then be able to reaquire it for use in the future cheaply since no other company would touch it with a barge pole after this games release.
