The Wii U will not have a significant price drop in a while because, the GamePad. Had Nintendo used a standard controller, a price drop would be inevitable. The GamePad is expensive to produce, once manufacturing costs go down for the GamePad(which they probably won't this year), then a price drop could come into effect.
| DerNebel said: Everytime someone starts talking about a pricedrop for the Wii U I remember that a new Wii U is still like 300 bucks, or so (?). For a system that launched at $350 in 2012 that seems crazy and what it tells me is that Nintendo is just going to ride this one out and not have price cuts in an attempt to increase the systems userbase at this point. |
Excuse me,but I have to note that 350$ was the cost of 32gb version of wii u,and 300$ the price of 8gb wii u version!
What happened is that 8gb wii u which was the basic set with a white wii u unit, production was ceased in mid 2013(for japan in late may in 2015)because most people were choosing the 32GB black wii u version, despite the existence of the cheaper by 50$ white 8gb wii u,so the 32gb wii u got the price of 8gb white wii u which was abolished, ergo not a real change, there was a 300$ wii u all along ...
In the past they cut GC a lot... and it ended up not helping much, maybe they decided to not care about marketshare when price wasn't the problem.

I doubt it that they'll suddenly decide to burn money on it. Moreover, not even a $100 cut will make me buy a Wii U. I can wait till they unveil NX and tell me what's the deal with it, if it's BC or not. I'm in no hurry right now. It's Nintendo that has to act fast with the NX.
Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!
My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/
My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.
I think $100 is too much since that would make it the same price as the n3DS.. $50 is the most reasonable imo

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]
Sure if they drop the gamepad
Seriously though if NX is to launch next year and involve a new home console then they may as well forget about price drops and just ride out the WiiU at the price it is trying to make as much off of it as they can.
A price drop wont do them much good now.
No one wants it at $300, no one will want it at $200. Similar to how the GC was at $99 throughout half of its life and sold less than both of its competitors regardless

I honestly can't see it help the wii u that much tbh.
