Forums - Gaming - Some developers not as enthusiastic at videogame voice actors's demands amid the possibility of a strike

But the same applies to movies and TV series. No matter how famous an actor is, he's only but a tiny element of a much bigger whole created by many other artists just as talented as the actor, if not more.

I editted my original post, I dont agree with royalties for actors at all even tough in live action actors do have a bigger impact than in games, but in movies and TV the system works like that since forever the boat has sailled already. because its broken in that universe it doesnt mean ppl should break the system in games as well.

Ppl are greedy thats all that this is, you get hired to do a job, get well payed and yet you want more for whatever reason.

The system is in place for actors in general. The video games industry is trying to separate video game actors from the other types of actors when the work required is just as demanding and impactful as any other voice acting work. How is that fair?

Yeah, and get completely canned in Asian market. Not really a good idea. Since some game sells on merit of hiring certain voice actors alone.

Do not think it is that serious, but if it is then they will get what they want.

Some games does, some games doesn't. AAA games are usually less effected by this.

This unique situation is likely due to drastically different culture. In culture dominated by anime, voice actors pretty much replaces actor. This explains why Japanese have 'Star' voice actors when western pretty much has none.

Some of them might be familiar to you even, like Otsuka Akio (MGS Solid-Solidus-Naked Snake) and Wakamoto Norio (Castlevania Dracula). They are both more famous as an Anime voice actor though.

Does this mean Nolan North will stop downing voices?

Hmm, pie.

Huh I disagree with the people saying Voice acting is easy but they shouldn't get paid extra, independent of how much the game sold. If they are not happy with the paid just refuse the contract.

I doubt many people ever bought a game because they liked the voice actors, they are most of the time replaceable. Devs should be the ones getting royalties, without them making the game VA wouldn't even get a job

I don't think voice actors should get royalties for a short few weeks of work. And using CEO and COO bonuses as an explanation for why thry should is downright stupid. I'm all for voice actors getting better working conditions though, but not royalties. Voice actors get paid well.

Getting payed $100,000 for 15 months of work for starring a game that made $600m in three is not "getting payed well." That CEO explanation may have been week, but the idea that the faces of a successful game don't get payed extra depending on how successful the game is is rediculus. These guys get community theatre pay for Hollywood movie performances.

First of all, that 600 million number isn't how much 2K interactive made, it's the revenue from the game, 10 million copies at 60 dollars per copy. Only some of those 60 dollars per copy go to 2K, then they have to pay platform royalties (to Sony and MS) and then they have to pay shipping costs etc. and last but not least; they have to cover the friggin budget of the goddamn game, which in GTA IV's case was probably 200 million+ when you take into account marketing. Most likely 2k had just broken even by that time.

Second of all, 100k for 15 months work (when this person was a relative nobody) is getting paid well regardless of what the project you are working on ends up making. I also doubt 100k for 15 months is the norm for professional voice actors, cause like I said, this was a relative nobody at the time.

In fact I'd be down for them working for overall better pay, but not residuals/royalties.

Maybe Alex Hutchinson should grab some of his buddies then and go on strike
I understand that many of you believe that there are more deserving people that work on these games but if they dont have the balls to do anything about it then they deserve shit.

This is just stupid. Every single person on the development team should get royalties way before voice actors do.
