Forums - Gaming - Was the original Xbox the best Microsoft console?

Having had a decent PC back then the Xbox seemed pretty boring to me. Got most of the 'exclusives' anyway.
Then there was the first controller, the Xbox being pretty loud...

Looking back it still had to few exclusives in a time Nintendo had probably still the best exclusives and Playstation still meant a vast majority of games were exclusive,
On the other hand it had some nice ideas like Xbox Live and the harddisc.

Was it good or even the best? Putting it in the right context, a time in which consoles still lived from their exclusives, it wasn't.
In terms of diversity again it wasn't.

Xbox 360 was much better.

Yes. It's by far my favorite Xbox with 360 second and the one in dead last.

Crimson skies
Panzer dragoon orta
Jet set radio future
Halo
Crazy taxi 3
Wreckless
Project Gotham racing 1 & 2.
Rallisport challenge 1 & 2
DOA3
Ninja gaiden
DOA extreme beach volleyball
Shenmue 2
Otogi 1 & 2

Not to mention ports of
MGS 2 substance
Genma Onimusha
Silent hill 2 restless dreams
Silent hill 4
Castlevania curse of darkness.

The original Xbox kicks major ass.

Unfortunately. I sold my original Xbox once the Xbox 360 got released, it seemed superfluous to hold onto with the Xbox 360's backwards compatibility via emulation... Plus scaler for better image quality.
Not to mention I preferred the Xbox 360's controller anyhow.

However... That machine was built like a brick shithouse and the break-away cable was a godsend and managed to pave the way for Achievements, DLC, Online console gaming.

I also enjoyed it for it's media capabilities back then, which was impressive for a console, had my entire music collection ripped onto which I happily used instead of Grand Theft Auto's default music.

Forgot about this feature! Totally loved playing Project Gotham to my own soundtrack(Faithless, Fatboy Slim, Prodigy, Moby etc) :P

Component cables are a must for playing the OG Xbox on any modern TV. I found that the PS2 cleans up better with component(bigger difference) but the composite signal was really bad, where the Xbox's composite signal was better than the PS2's composite. Component for both consoles is ideal.

I loved the OG xbox a lot more then the 360. The 360 had much better marketing and continued on the success of Halo and FPS mainstream. But OG had a lot more gaming memories for me.

Both the Xbox and Xbox 360 consoles are great consoles. If I had to choose though, I'd go with the Xbox 360.

Since it only had one Forza and zero JRPG's I have to say no.

Zero jrpgs?

What do you call phatansy star online, blackstone, shenmue 2 and metal dungeon?

Pffft, call yourself an xbox fan?

360 by far

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

I remember reading articles about this thing. I laughed that MS was going to enter the console space. I was not a fan of the original, I loved my PS2 too much, and wanted this thing to fail. (it did, sales wise) I was so amped for the PS3 to come out. It was not until the price reveal, and Kutigari's statement about how much it would cost, that I soured on Playstation. It took the Halo 3 reveal trailer(where masterchief throws down the shield) to get me excited in last gen.

I was done with gaming after the PS3 price reveal. It took crackdown , viva pinata, and Halo 3 to get me back into gaming. and now I actually prefer gaming on the Xbox over PS3. for the record I own both the PS4 and xbox1, and wiiu but I only play the ps4 for diablo with the wife, and all my other gaming has gone to the xbox. The reason for that is not the gamerscore (i was offline all last gen) but because I am used to the xbox controller, and oddly enough I enjoy MS more than Sony products. I enjoy the current lead that Sony has, I truly believe that because of this ridiculous lead it caused MS to focis more on what gamers want from the Xbox.

From here on out, all th eimprovements MS makes to the XB1 to compete against the PS4 is in larger part thanks to Sony. So thank you Sony for making the XB1 a much better place to game year after year.

for the record I am drunk, and just love gaming on everything. once feelow gamers can stop tearing down other systems, to feel better about their purchase, the better us gamers in general will be. All 3 companies do things that annoy it's loyal base, which is going to happen when you try to cater to so many eclectic taste. All 3 console makers bring good, and bad to the scene. lets just enjoy the positives for once.

Heaps of first and third party exclusives probably make it so. But really that whole gen was the best imo. Every console had reasons for owning them.
