I don't think it needs to be more powerful. Just on par. I'm not considering it a 9th ten system. 8.5, if anything.

When it comes to NIntendo hw decisions, its not just about power, but power consumption as well as form factor. Nintendo does not want a big hulking box around the tv, they prefer a low profile that blends in your living space without taking up much room. This is another reason why ditching optical media for card reader/mini cartridge, will help the chances of Nintendo cramming as much power possible in the NX home version. Think a modern GCN.

But from the beginning of NX talks, I've said Nintendo is simply going to raise the handheld/portable standard to HD, and not push the home console power that much. That means NX handheld will be around Wii U level powr, and the home NX sub XB1 level. That power gap should be convenient for devs in serving crossbuy aka Fusion.

There may be other versions or upgrades down the line, but this is what I see in the first couple years of the NX era.

I dont care if it's more powerful or not, if i have money, time, and the games is interesting and has a lot of 3rd party support and more first party games then other competitor , i will buy, but also need to compare which one to buy first if it's coming with the other competitor, but i doubt it will be release on the same time with PS5 and Xbox 2. And also i o ly hope it's a fusion so i dont need to buy pad anymore.

The hing is if NX isnt almost as powerfull or more powerfull than the PS4 and the XOne, and if its some crazy handheld/console hybrid itll get 0 3rd party support again, cause 3rd parties just wont bother developping for NX if it means they need to do a complete different game to be able to make it run in theyre console. And them we end up with WiiU all over again.

I think Nintendo fans saying "I don't need power", "Nintendo games don't need power, cause they are cartoony" ignore the fact, that without quality 3rd party support, NX will bomb. 3rd party games are more important than 1st party games, period. If the console is weaker than PS4. people won't feel the need to get it, cause it's no upgrade over the "market standard". The Nintendo console will be yet again relegated to struggle in a fight to justify itself as a secondary console for exclusives only. Not the best place to be.

I'd be very happy with NX being my primary console this gen, but it has to be at least somewhat more powerful than the PS4. Taking advantage of 3 extra years and the advancement in technology, being powerful enough to play 3rd party games in 1080p/60fps with the same graphics would be the sweet spot that would sway many people away from PS4/Xbone. Obviously, the online service would have to be top notch with account system in the eShop and trophy/achievements, but how hard is that? Do that and the market is yours for the taking, Nintendo!

I don't think it needs to be the most powerful to be successful. It needs to be able to run 3rd party ports with little fuss. It needs to have easy porting so 3rd parties don't have an excuse not to do it. The big selling point should be that the entire library of Nintendo games will be available on the device and won't be separated by the handheld division. Like I said, if Nintendo did this from the start and made the Wii U a console that it into an HD 3DS player, it wouldn't have had nearly the struggles it did. There would have been fewer droughts too.

NX could be a success if it is 2 things. Affordable, and accessible. 1 game can run on 2 devices? True ability to go from console to handheld without missing a beat? 3rd parties would be racing to put their games on the system and it looks like SE is one of the first ones racing to do so. It just needs to be in between PS4 and Xbox One to do so.

I think that after this much time, the difference in price of making the console a bit weaker or a bit more powerful is marginal. These parts are so old at this point and will be manufactured in bulk, so it really shouldn't make much of a difference financially. I'm not among those people calling for a cutting edge console, they have to be aware of making the console affordable and they have to consider Sony cutting the price even to $299. I think they should dissect the PS4, work with AMD to make a console that's a bit more powerful, but comparatively expensive and boom. After all, PS4 even at launch wasn't anything cutting edge. Make sure your console plays the same games with the same graphics but with locked 60 fps and you're the big boy again.

The handheld argument probably won't mean much for Western developers, handhelds are sadly extinct over here. It's a cool thing, but nothing they'll get excited about. It's a different story in Japan, but that's not enough to drive a product that has to appeal worldwide. I think that being able to go out and say "this is the most powerful console, we give you the best quality in the business, you are going to get the best CoD, AC, Dark Souls, GTA, etc. experience only on Nintendo" is a great selling point and at this point in the lifecycle of PS4, it would help enter the market a lot. I think Nintendo has to be finally able to say "if you want the best, look no further, just buy our console".

I'm affraid that a weaker console would be immediately labelled as nothing more but a possible secondary console. Let's not forget that Nintendo has to put some extra work to earn the trust of 3rd parties. This would make everything much easier. I mean, if the console is weaker, gamers will have no reason to buy multiplats on it - they can have them better on PS4. They won't be buying NX ports, devs will be discouraged by low sales... you know how it goes.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Not really, if it's a type of unified ecosystem where all or most games are available on both the handheld and console than the console will have all the support of the handheld and vice versa. If u combine 3DS and Wii U 3rd party support, it's really not that bad. 3DS gets solid Japanese 3rd party, both get solid indie support that will likely continue to grow, and both also get solid support from child/family friendly western 3rd parties.

Nintendo+Japanese 3rd parties+indies+family western titles gives Nintendo a steady stream of new releases. Any AAA western support is just icing on the cake.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Nope doesnt need power, no one buys Nintendo for multiplat games, they buy them for Nintendo games, the graphics just dont matter, price is the most important thing, they need to be so affordable they can be everyones second console.

Youre thinking a videogame thats a fusion of 3DS and WiiU, not a new videogame that does WiiU and 3DS at the same time. Cause lets face it if Nint wants this to work, a game will be required to run both as a handheld version and as a console version, if they let devs just pick one it makes no sense. And if a game needs to be both a handheld game and a console game ppl will have to develop exclusively for the NX or make a game they had no plan of having a handheld version work as a handheld. Most likelly 3rd parties will just not care if this is how NX turns out to be imo.

If the NX is indeed Nintendos next home console will you buy it if it is not substantially more powerful than the ps4?... I don't think I will I think I will be done with gaming.

So what is your reasoning for being done with gaming? I must know :P

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

Yup, it does need power, cause right now no one buy Nintendo - period.

Aiming right of the bat to be an afterthought, used a couple times a year isn't the best strategy.
