to shake things up in the thread, im gonna say, no they cant afford to fail, its not gonna happen though, its not good for the game industry if any game dev goes out
Probably not, I mean the PSP was an okay success and after only having one sales dud with the Vita, they are ready to exit the handheld market according to recent news.
I'm no analyst by any degree so I don't know what to say on the that. Its also too early to tell because of production of their next gen system can't even be determined, mainly because it probably doesn't exist yet.
However, I'm sure regardless, Sony as a company itself will stand.
Of course there are those also saying that the PS5's failure is impossible. You never know. Coming out of the PS2 to PS3, the Playstation brand was, initially, on its knees at a competitive standpoint. Sure it recovered nicely, but there was a pressing concern about its future as a brand, even within Sony.

Sony learned their lesson after the ps3 thing, all they have to do is keep the overall same mentality they had with ps1, ps2 and ps4, and they'll be fine.
PS5 will be fine. It'll be coming off a strong showing and performance of ps4.
Just need to keep the "gamers are first" mind frame, continue everything we've been used to such as used games, physical media, a reasonable jump in graphics and affordable price point and you're good.
No need to watch tv, sports, or anything else, a games console comes first before any of that other stuff.
It can have that stuff, but games have to come first.
