there hasn't been a jrpg with an ounce of originality in more than a decade.... It's worst than COD... I could take all of them and group each character together... Young boy hero most likely orphan from a village wanna save the kingdome or the princess, got a bunch of friend more than likely an androgen guy in love, a pair of kids twins with magic, a chick with healing powers and an other one that's a tom boy... They go on an adventure to take down a plot against the crown built at the highest circle close to the throne and his town arch enemy is probably with them... Oh I forgot the army general that is in the plot.. And the white knight under his order that will join force with the hero character mid game...

pretty much summed every jrpg we've had in a long while good or bad...

I can think of plenty of JRPGs that defy that. Xenoblade, Persona, Fire Emblem, Shin Megami Tensei, Genei Ibun Roku #FE, Disgaea and Ni No Kuni are but a few.

I think you aren't looking hard enough.

It's not just jrpg's, it's almost every action game, every zelda game, every Mario game, every Pokemon game etc they all usually rinse and repeat story lines and characters.

As for Scalebound, was hoping for a PG game, but this looks very slow and I dislike the new Donte character. It feels like Kamiya made him just to piss Ninja Theory off.

True but they aren't much more original... I'm not talking about their quality... There has been some super great rpg... But to me they've been failing hard on the creativity front... And combat system are being old or too action oriented... But you are right I might not be looking hard enough... But I shouldn't have to...

Isn't that a bit to much bullshit? The main protaginist is a simple copy of a hipster dante, the world is like every other fantasy game with dragons and if you have to save the world in this game the bolded part wouldn't make any sense. Aren't the souls games also jrpg or to specify action jrpgs?

Topic: The only problem I have with this game is the dragon, isn't he a bit too powerful or is that just to show the mechanics of the game? in every gameplay I've seen so far the dragons beats every enemy alone.

That's the problem that I've been having, the Dragon is obviously way too strong at the moment, it makes your character more of a supporter and seems to take all the challenge out of the game.

First of since when DMC is an RPG??? Second his looks has nothing to do with my points... But yeah sure then again we have either FF 3d style or jap animation looking style... Which are pretty much always the same in jrpg... Oh wait sprinkle some cell shading here and there...

The world is pretty similar true again I didn't argue on looks really... And the dragons do make a huge difference.. And saving the world is not really the issue but the general premises and context of it in most jrpg...

And souls game jrpg...??? Are we talking about that skyrim and witcher hybrid with one of the worst excuse for gameplay ever??? The one where they set difficulty of a unoriginal and very simple gameplay to nightmare mod on medium and call it great and complex... When it's not for a second...??? That soul game is supposed to be a jrpg and a good one at that???

Lol, someone's bad at Souls games. Just because you don't get a series as critically loved as this one doesn't mean it's bad, it just means one thing, that you have probably never tried to understand them and why they are so good anyway...

Also I'd love for you to try and explain your way around thinking that Scalebound qualifies as a JRPG while the Souls game don't

First of I just said we might have a chance to have an original JRPG with scalebound... Might still be crap or boaring....

Not good at soul???? Anyone can get good at soul... Just have to master roll pary hit..... Accept that death is a pain in the butt... The game itself is good the gameplay is terrible period... Or at least very basic outside of being hard.... I find witcher gameplay harder by its complexity yet I don't hate it...

And is a regular western style fantasy game a classical jrpg??? Are we talking about style or where it has been developed here?? But a tolkienesk RPG can't be a jrpg...
But you might be right scalebound might not qualify either... We'll see

Finally critical acclaim never meant anything was actually good.... It just means it's famous and sells well... COD any michael bay movies... Whatever has beats by dre on it... Or a bitten apple...
