Now that's a stupid question.
It is a fine game, but I loved the original PS1/GC games for what they were and the changes made it feel like a new series. One that subsequent entries felt farther and farther removed from that old formula I loved.

RE4 ruined RE in the same way that every sonic after S3K ruined sonic.
Most people do; it's a majority opinion.
RE4 represents the divergence in the franchise that changed the gameplay from the hardware limitations of 5th generation consoles into a more action oriented approach which resulted in the franchise breaking into mainstream commercial success.
Granted, RE was a commercial and critical hit from its inception with the original RE, it wasn't until RE4 that the game really broke into the mainstream.
It was worse than most third person shooters, even at the time. The only thing Resident Evil 4 had over other games were graphics.
Take a generic third person shooter, remove all the run and gun aspects that third person shooters are generally known for forcing the character to stand in place. The only good thing about the game was the graphics which were some of the best of their time. Most PC shooters had better gameplay and there were a decent amount of console shooters that were better as well. Resident Evil 4 was the beginning of the end for the Resident Evil series.
The only games Resident Evil 4 are better than in the series imo are Raident Evil 6 and Resident Evil Gaiden.

Doubtless she means that every Sonic after S3K is fantastic. Not something I agree with personally, but different strokes and all that.

Ah, thanks for the correction!
It's overrated. Its a good game, but not the masterpiece people peg it be. Resident Evil 5 did the action/survival better.
No.
It wasn't just a major release for the IP, but it clearly inspired many games that came after.

If it wasn't for RE 4, franchises like Gears of War, Uncharted, and The Last of Us probably wouldn't exist.
