Forums - Gaming - Dragon Age: Inquisition Game of the Year announced

Amazing game that is easily the best in the series, even though there are still some things that could be improved.

Was waiting for the GOTY edition after I played through it via EA Access.

Dragon Age Origins was one of the best games last gen and hard to live up to. Dragon Age Inquisition was a great game but to each their own. I loved it but then I also liked DA2 in it's own way.

I want to love Inquisition as I fell in love with Ferelden and Orlais in Origins.  The world seemed so alive and characters so vivid.  Within a few hours I was fully invested in the story and understood my objective and was fascinated by the choices. The dungeons and enemies were solid and combat was great balance of fun and strategy.  I played Inquistion for nearly 20 hours and felt nothing. Not a single story beat or character or even vague understanding of the world. What is going on? What am I doing?  My experience was running around in empty fields with no sense of purpose. It is everything I loathe about MMOs in that regard. Kill X enemies, take X to Y, rinse, repeat in combat that consisted of me nearly falling asleep.

I'v ehad this discussion here before, but I am tempted to try again because it seems impossible to me that anyone could enjoy the experience I had. I must be doing it wrong or missing something. Maybe there is a good walk through that shows how the game could be worth while.

You just described my experience.

I love Origins, played the whole thing multiple times. I love so many things in the world, and still, after 10 hours i was bored like hell.
I want to give another try someday, some games get better after a time (TLoU for example), but i agree that GOTYs last year were very misguided.

Unless i am forgetting someone, i would give the awards to Shadows of Mordor (for its nemesys system) or Bayonetta 2 (for being an overall better game than the others).

I am confused, how can you say it is the best in the series if you only played in EA Access?
EA Access give full games? Always thought it was just some hours.

Yes, EA Access grants you access to full games among other things. The hours you're referring to is a part of their service that allows members to play X hours (usually 12 I believe) of a game about a week prior to release.

as described above you can play trials for EA games that aren't even out yet. The trial is limited to 10 hours (of pure game time) and is basically the full game.

Everything that is in the Vault can be played for as long as you want (until the subsription runs out).
I put 80 hours in DA: Inquisition doing basically everything there was. DLCs aren't part of the Vault, even if EA makes some DLC available for free for their members, as in the case of Battlefield 4.

I'll get the GOTY edition purely for the DLC and only then when it hits ~20€.

Stop doing all those pointless side quest. I skipped any sidequest that involved doing stupid stuff like that and just did the sidequest that had actually story to it. The game is much shorter then but its still a good 30 hours.

Takes away value of a game to me. If you're not going to 100% complete it, then it's a waste of money.

Well if that's your view then yea don't play this game cause you wont like it. When I play games I only ever do stuff related to the main story I hate doing side quest that have nothing to do with the story. I don't consider it waste of money though cause I still got over 60+ hours from the game and I can only name a handful of games that have given me that much play time.

When i have a spare day in the coming months I'll give a 4th and final attempt starting from scratch this time to see if I can get anything out of the experience.  Seems bad game design when people dislike 70% of the game though if what you're saying is true.

I don't think those side quest are 70% of the game. Yes it is a flaw in the game but it's the only flaw I can think of (IMO). When I played the way I advised you to I was able to get 60+ hours out of the game. That's more then most games can offer you for their $60.

Gamers......

Game I love gets recognised with awards: "Aww yeaaa, told y'all it was the shit! #Greatest #GOTD #BestOfGen"

Game I don't much care for gets recognised with awards: "These motherfuckers don't know shit. These awards don't mean a damn thing"

Pretty much.

Wow how did it get GOTY when it released last year? Something I definitely fishy here

nah but seriously this is nice for people that haven't jumped in it and for people that don't support digital content.

Inquisition was a case of a good idea (quasi-open world) not implemented very well, It mostly had space for the sake of space. But I still like the game a lot. I hope my nightmare playthrough trophy will proc when I finish my current run, because my next two runs will need to be on an easier setting just so I can get through quicker. I pretty much always have to play each Dragon Age game with every class, and all races in the case of Origins and Inquisition, at least once.

Looking forward to my two-handed weapon wielding elf warrior maiden. She'll be the niece of my city elf two-handed weapon specialist Grey Warden from Origins.
