I keep hearing people say this, but I never quite got what it means. Could you explain? Is it because they're heavy? Because they really aren't, the Rift and PSVR  both weigh less than a pound and most of the weight is put on the back of your head.

It literally looks like one. I personally hate having things on my head for a long time. Even those big headphones i dislike because it makes my neck hurt. I have no doubt that the same will happen with these.

These are demo'ed only for short bursts of time, so it hasnt dawned yet. I'm sure we will hear about it when they come out.

There is a reason why anime's that represent VR always have this gear in simply glasses. A very light and non-intrusive hardware. Thats the only way i see it gaining popularity.

I can see how some people would have trouble with that. Though most people don't seem to have an issue with it, considering how popular over the ear headphones are.

My personal experience with VR comes from using the Gear VR which honestly I've never used for more than like 25-30 minutes at a time (the phone overheats if you use it for too long) but I think you could comfortably wear that for an hour without too much issue. It's important to remember that the Gear VR should easily be the least comfortable headset when comparing it to the Rift or PSVR since it's heavier (555 grams with the phone vs less than 380 for the other two), puts most of the weight way out in from of the headset, and sits on your face like a scuba mask.

Arguibly the most popular depiction of VR in anime (SAO) uses these big giant helmets though. Plus, the little glasses you sometimes see would actually offer a pretty crappy experience. Since you'd have loads of light bleed and a terrible vertical FOV.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I want to use HoloLens for gaming and porn. VR on the other hand is not really appealing to me so far. Phil is right about the social aspect of gaming, you can't deny it.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I agree.

Phil Spencer is a Nintendo fanboy confirmed.

I wondered if I was the only one to see this: "I just love me watching you play Mario and giving you ideas about where things might be, and we laugh, and we can kind of sit around and eat chips, and do things that people do".

I never really got how you would use AR for gaming...I mean, the game world would be limited by the space you're physically in.

Many people play games to go explore other worlds. There's no better way to do that than VR. Why wouldn't it catch on or why would it be "sad" if it did?

Current VR solutions just aren't practical when you take real world into account. For example, if you want to do something else while you are "mounted" you have to first take the thing off. With TV setup, you just pause the game and put the controller away and do your stuff, it is convenient. This is the biggest problem there is.

VR limits your comfortable positions a lot and makes it a lot more difficult to change positions while playing.

Isolation, relationships will be affected by this. Person in VR is not going to have a lot of social presence in the room, be it boyfriends/girlfriends, children or guests.

Possible health problems, currently the sample size is not big enough to reveal possible negative health effects.

Investment, price of VR equipment and possible cost of upgrading your hardware.

Value of VR experience, it is still unproved if mass market truly values the experience like the niche-audience does right now. Mass market could just say, VR is cool but it is not something I need in my life.

I really feel VR is still too early. Tech needs to advance a lot but eventually VR/AR (whatever solution it may be) will come and take over.

I cannot imagine toilet-free life.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.

I agree with Spencer! I really don't like the idea of VR and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Spencer, you are so frigin' obvious it hurts.

LOL

People are falling waaay too much into the "He's a gamer like us, wearing T-Shirts and Jeans!" character of his.

He is just a suit, just like the rest of the board.

It has nothing to do with the fact they haven't got VR and he wants to build a perception it's going to be antisocial ... absolutely nothing to do with it.

I kinda have to agree with him. VR mustn't be something that defines how every game in the future should be or how it should play. I wouldn't mind for it to be a complement, since VR running amok as the only way to play a game can't be good for the industry.

Yep it's not all or nothing. There is a lot of space between the future of gaming and a gimmick.
Mobile phone games, once tauted as the future of gaming (actually still are) are happily co-existing with console games.
VR games can co-exist fine with family room friendly gaming.

Whether it's his agenda or actual opinion, I doubt he has enough information to draw a conclusion ...
