- Capcom told IGN that Umbrella Corps won't use Resident Evil in its title in the West.
- IGN shared the experience playing the Umbrella Corps game during TGS.
1) The shooting feels bad
According to IGN, Umbrella Corps’ weapons feel weak, too similar, and all around ineffective. Characters and zombies don’t respond appropriately to getting shot so it’s challenging to know whether you’ve made your mark. Headshots suffer the same situation.
2) The new cover system has problems
Getting in and out of cover is sloppy and can very easily get you killed. You can only enter cover when a cover point lights up, and if you’re looking for that specific spot to get into cover, you could get killed. Getting out is worse — there’s no easy way to round a corner or move to the next protective point without ending up staring into a wall.
The cover system allows you to increase accuracy depending on how much you expose yourself during cover, depending on how much you lean in or out during cover.
3) Never forget the Zombie Jammer
Everyone starts the match inmune to zombie attack thanks to the Zombie Jammer. If your Zombie Jammer gets damaged (I think it lies in each players back) then zombies will come after you.
4) It’s not very Biohazard/Resident Evil
Aside from the odd Umbrella logo and the presence of zombies, nothing about Biohazard: Umbrella Corps screams Biohazard.
And it’s by design — the producers told me flat out they honed the gameplay first, making a strong shooter instead of a strong Resident Evil game.
Umbrella Corps won’t feature any notable Resident Evil characters, either. (AbbathTheGrim says: "Wait for the list of DLC/microtransactions to discard that one.)
5) Smart, fast tactics
You really need to pay attention to survive and use all the tools at your disposal — whether it’s your weapons, traversal techniques, knowledge of an environment, or the enemies in the world.
6) The Zombie Brainer is an incredible tool
Imagine the combination of an ice-pick and a scythe and you’ve got the right idea for Umbrella Corps’ "zombie brainer" weapon.
- close-range tool
- let's you grab a zombie and hold it in front of you to evade headshots
- you can use it to climb up to the second floor of a level by pulling yourself up
- satisfying weapon to kill another player instantly
7) The spectator cam has to go
When you die, you can see exactly where allies and enemies are from a birds-eye perspective. You get a full view of the entire map and where players are looking within it. This means you can communicate exactly where hidden opponents are when you’re out of the game. Capcom says this is by design, and it puts teams on equal footing because both can use the spectator camera while dead, but to me it just feels like cheating.

Some things sound nice for a shooter.
