No, it not a valid upgrade from a PS3/360. Its sales would be higher though for sure.

I think brand image alone woudnt had allowed good third parties sales on the wii u, it wouldnt had mattered how superior/inferior those games ended up to be, it wouldnt changed much. They need to change that in order for gamers to start associating a nintendo console with third parties western games.

I wonder. Nintendo fans will buy it regardless but what about the rest of the market? How many people who bought a PS4 or XO would have bought a Wii U instead if it had full third party support? Would any of those who have yet to commit to current gen have jumped on a Wii U with all the multi-plats?

With those buying for themselves, I think nothing much would change. With parents buying for several members of a family, though, perhaps the Wii U would have been more attractive?

However, at the end of the day, with the perception of inferior online and graphical prowess, not to mention the lack of achievements/trophies and other standard amenities, I think the gain would have been relatively light.

You know, I have my doubts about that.  I think it would require most of a generation to convince people that they offered the same kind of experiences as Microsoft and Sony.  The average consumer, I think, would go in with perceptions that would have to be changed with concrete examples.  Even if they did begin to match the others, Nintendo still has a reputation for changing their focus, which could also hurt them unless they put two strong console generations back-to-back.
