Forums - Sony - Can Anyone Else See What Phil Spencer Is Trying To Do?

Well I'm sure that is what most people are expecting anyway, Sony did announce a price cut in Japan, I'm sure most feel that a price drop is due soon in the west also.

It makes sense for them to drop the price. I'm sure they know they need to do it to create a larger user base, and play the percentage numbers for PSVR to have a better chance at a respectable install base. If this thing sells bad initially, alot of support will dry up as well.

Even if we assume that Phil is trying to confuse potential PS4 buyers I fail to see what's so evil or unethical about it? It would just be some harmless PR talk.

People assume the figurehead of one of the gaming pillars has insider knowledge.

Some people are already spreading that the PS4 will get a price cut and wait according to Phil Spencer.

He knew exactly what he was doing.

I'll take MS PR over Sony PR any day.  Sony PR last generation was like Donald Trump.

You do realize what you just said makes no sense right? Allow me to explain.

Confusing PS4 buyers harms Sony and benefits Microsoft, by the defintion of the word harmless, that is not harmless PR talk. Intention and ethicism are irrelevant, point is it is damaging. The amount of cognitive dissonance is amazing, where one can recognize this misbehavior and try to dismiss it simultaneously.

Comparing PR is just veiled bias, especially when it concerns last generation.

Last Generation Sony was loosing, hard their company was hemmoraghing, now MS Xbox is loosing.

You really didn't need the last part.

You want me to bring up some quotes from last and current generation?

"[Wii] is a lollipop, and I'm too old for lollipops." (Jack Tretton, 2007)

“[Nintendo 3DS] is a great babysitting tool" (Jack Tretton, 2011)

”With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that... Nintendo knows its target audience, because it has really narrowed that down; and it's pretty much defined by a boy or girl's ability to admire Pokemon.” – (Phil Harrison, 2005)

"Microsoft does not concern us. Microsoft is not a technology company."(Nobuyuki Idei, Sony chief corporate adviser, 2007)

Now who does that remind you of?

I don't think their is good shit and bad shit I think all shit is shit. And I think its shitty to excuse Phil Spencer's shit now because of shit that shitty executives said 4-10 years ago, especially when none of the people who said those things work at Sony currently. Trenton is gone, Harrison (funny thing) left Sony to work for Microsoft (are you going to hold MS responsible for what he said while at Sony) and hes gone from MS now too, Idei gone, Spencer replaced Mattrick he is still here, lets talk about the present not the past.

I don't hate Sony because of what they said then, and I don't hate MS for what Spencer is saying now. I don't hate Spencer, I'm saying what he said is irresponsible, because it affects buisness now, and that giving him the benefit of the doubt is bullshit because he got put their because of Mattrick talking out of his ass.

Personally, I'm not suprised by this, because I never gave him the benefit of the doubt just because he replaced Mattrick and said a couple of good things.

The Wii and the DS aren't even being sold anymore.

Nintendo fans living in the past isn't a rare occurence though.

They also like to butt in conversations Nintendo isn't even a part of. Funny.

Well, if Phil is trying to fool buyers on holding out from buying a PS4, Sony should say, "We expect MS to do another price drop after we made ours"

Harmless, as in your everyday PR. Nothing special. You could say that all PR is harmful since the whole point of it is to make consumers pick your product over other's (you get money, your competitor(s) don't) but I think that is taking things a bit too literally.

I'm tired as hell and barely understands anything atm, but that level of effort is about what I feel this topic deserves so I believe it's fitting. I just find the whole thing silly and little more than an attempt at making a chicken farm out of a feather.
