Forums - Sales - GameStop Refuses to Sell Console Bundles That Include Digital Copies of Games

My PS4 came with Batman: Arkham Knight (physical) and The Last of Us: Remastered (digital) and it didn't bother me one bit. I can't say I would have changed my purchase location if someone offered the bundle with two physical games.

There's simply no way I can see them doing a right thing here. They're free to bundle physical copies to consoles if they want but at least let the consumer decide which to buy.

They are.

The idea is to get the consumer to then sell the physical copy to them used, which they will turn a profit on.

Yes, cause profit is SO evil.  /s

When you're making profit and not giving any of it to the people who made the game, its pretty evil.

So, you're saying that if I buy a game for $60 and I decide to sell it on eBay, I should have to give that money to the dev.  Even though I just paid them $60 for the game?  And I guess retailers should give up their cut on new SW sales, as well, since it should go to the devs?  Guess we should pass legislation to get rid of ALL used cars, as well?  Everyone buy brand new cars?  Yea, that won't hurt people's lives, at all

This is going to dig into MS' earnings far more than Sony's. Most PS bundles I have seen/bought come with a physical copy. However MS loves "giving" away digital versions to prop up their fledgling consoles.

Either way I like this a lot.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

The market has already decided it wants to do digital. CD and DVD/Bluray is lower than it's ever been, and the only reason they still exist is for collector value for an increasingly niche audience and that they still can. The market has already chosen digital there. When the NX goes digital only, there won't be a mass exodus, there will be a mass unflux because a console finally modernized.

125 million+ Steam users are already all digital on PC. They aren't the vast majority, and they'll grow less and less as physical is weeded out in favor of digital, starting with the NX next year. It'll do to consoles what the ipod did to music. And no one will look back.

So why over 80% of any big release game is Physical?

The market choose physical over digital at least on consoles this gen.

That's because it's still a better choice on console.  Games can be traded in and you get the case for collectors purposes.

On PC the physical version is just a DRM disc and you still have to install steam.  Not to mention it is usally cheaper on PC to go digital as well.  Not the case on console.

And we are now witnessing the beginning of the end for Gamestop. They are living in history, just like blockbuster did.

Sadily this may be true as well.  The Kodiac direction is almost never the right one from a business point of view.  However I don't see many other options for them.

You're selling a game on Ebay. That's nothing compared to what Gamestop does. They have a business because they buy back games from people to sell them 5 dollars less than the new game.

Wow..  They aren't in the least bit looking out for gamers.  They are looking out for themselves. What they want is for people to buy a bundle and then trade in that game for a different game and then resell the originally bundled game which takes a sale away from the game creator.

Good bye Gamestop and your poor customer service lol. If it wasn't the ignorant parents you are already part of the history.

Nope, that's no different if I sold my used game for $55 on eBay.  They just turned that concept into a business. Nothing evil or wrong with that, at all.  But, if you'll enjoy celebrating when 18,000+ lose their jobs at Gamestop if they ever close their "evil" stores, just because they are a 2nd hand store like any other 2nd hand store, than you just go right ahead.
