The market has already decided it wants to do digital. CD and DVD/Bluray is lower than it's ever been, and the only reason they still exist is for collector value for an increasingly niche audience and that they still can. The market has already chosen digital there. When the NX goes digital only, there won't be a mass exodus, there will be a mass unflux because a console finally modernized.

125 million+ Steam users are already all digital on PC. They aren't the vast majority, and they'll grow less and less as physical is weeded out in favor of digital, starting with the NX next year. It'll do to consoles what the ipod did to music. And no one will look back.

So why over 80% of any big release game is Physical?

The market choose physical over digital at least on consoles this gen.

That's because it's still a better choice on console.  Games can be traded in and you get the case for collectors purposes.

On PC the physical version is just a DRM disc and you still have to install steam.  Not to mention it is usally cheaper on PC to go digital as well.  Not the case on console.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.
