He punched a good sized hole in your line of thought. I bet they marketed it to no end before it was released. If nintendo was gonna release NX next year, they would of revealed it at their "less than okay" E3 this year or did some kind of reveal at this point to at least let people know what it is. There's nothing in their normal way of doing things that support the idea that they will release a home console a year early because of the wii u bad sales. 

Actually only Wii and NES had 5 year cycle, all other Nintendo consoles had life cycle of 5 years, and with worst sells ever for any Nintendo console, Wii U will certainly not have 6 year cycle, I dont think it will have 5 year cycle.

That's why they can't show NX right now even if they wanted to. Wii U and 3DS have enough problems as is this holiday season. 

Besides the whole "lets show a system 2 years before release" is a stupid and outdated policy. No one wants to see a game system/smartphone/tablet etc. and then by told, "now please wait 18 months for this". 

It's not 1997 anymore, that doesn't fly with modern consumers. 3DS was also announced, revealed, and released in under 12 months, so even for Nintendo it can be done. 

As probably the senior resident here on these boards I remember when the freaking N64/Project: Reality was announced in October 1993 ... that was almost THREE FULL YEARS before launch, lol and the SNES was barely 2 years old in the US at that time. Things change, just because Nintendo has done things one way for a period of time doesn't mean it will stay that way. 

What hole!? Wii U is disaster, they certainly not do same thing for NX.

Fun how you looked out PS4/Xbox One examples like perfect revealed, marketed and launch consoles, there is now reason why Nintendo want do something similar, especially after Wii U.

Actually all things points that NX will be released next year and not in 2017.

If NX doesn't come out in 2016, it'll be dead at launch come 2017. If this years holiday season releases, E3, and TGS are anything to go by, it's that the PS4 is about to get full support. To alter a quote from Jack Tretton. PS4 has just started hitting its stride.

At the most this is going to be the sixth generation all over again and Nintendo might move into Gamecube sales territory. At the least, this is going to be the Wii U all over again, if not worse.

They honestly shouldn't even bother, 2016 would be very late, 2017 is hilariously way too late, it's like showing up to a party at 3:30 AM. Forget Sony they won't even be sniffing Microsoft who will be well past 30 million by 2017. 

Just make a mega-powerful portable. That's the main part of NX. Then the "console" can just be a companion/side-thing to that, and it doesn't matter if it only sells 10-15 million units. It's just gravy for the stuffing. 

If you add up the months, it's a little over 5 years. The 5 year cycle is normal for nintendo's home consoles. I never said anything about being the norm for the other consoles.  Can you give me a link to a quote from someone within nintendo that said NX is a home console?

Fils-Aime: The time frame that these systems are sold is quite long, and right now we’re still at the very early stages of the current generation. The other piece I would highlight is this is a global business. Don’t just look at what’s happening here in the U.S. Look at what’s happening globally.

From a Nintendo perspective, we clearly have strength here in the Americas, we have strength in Europe and we have strength in Japan. That isn’t necessarily true of some of our more direct competitors. We’ve also said publicly that we are already hard at work on our next home console and that’s another element we’ll be talking about much later.

NX wasn't even mentioned in it. 

Nothing points to NX being released in 2016 except for some of the nintendo fans pointing to it and hoping for it to be so. I'm close to posting a gif about beating a dead horse. We will see what happens in 2016 and 2017.

If it's 2017, I'll just say this ... Nintendo really is becoming the Blackberry of the game hardware business. Irrelevant to everyone but a small niche of their core fan base. Forget the console business they are done there, maybe the portable NX could do OK, but the 3DS is badly running out of gas already, asking for another two years from it is corporate suicide. 

The wii u sales are already down in the pipes swirling around to be honest. It really depends on what it is if it will affect either home console or handheld or both. When you do you thnk it will be fully revealed and released?
