Super Mario 64 wins against the original, but I prefer Crash 2 over SM64.

Love Crash Bandicoot, but its got nothing on Super Mario 64.

I'm not the best person to ask this because I'm the rare person that has never liked Mario 64. Crash Bandicoot all the way!

Mario 64 - in every level - Crash 3 was a great game but as 3rd 3D game of crash will ahve to be compared to teh 3rd 3D paltformer of Mario which is galaxy so yeah mario still superior imo

Not even close. Want close then. Even worse now. When SM64 came out, Sony and Sega tried to counter with NiGHTS (crappy analog) and Crash (average platformer). Only one is still payable.

There really isn't much of a contest. The classic Crash games were REALLY fun, and well made, don't get me wrong. In fact, I really wish Naughty Dog would go back to making games like Crash and Jak, but they won't.

But comparing these two games? Crash was good, but was for the most part a limited, even at times "on-rails" feeling platformer. Whereas Mario 64 was the first truly FULLY 3D action/platformer game. As in Mario had a full range of motion and movement, and could run around and explore big 3D environments. It was a fully realized 3D gaming concept, that would be copied and emulated in it's own way, just as much as Super Mario Bros. had been for 2D gaming a decade before.

Crash was a lot of fun. Mario 64 was groundbreaking, and in many ways a masterpiece of it's time. It wasn't PERFECT. But it was amazing for 1996.

Having played Crash Bandicoot quite recently, I have to say that the controls are horrible. Crash 2 and Crash 3 are so much better . Super Mario 64 is a much better game, even though it does have it's own problems :P.

Mario 64 is still one if the best games ever and in some respects has never been bettered.
