You guys must be crazy. I'm sorry, but I just can't believe what I'm seeing here!

Vita has got a massive (when we're talking about these two bomba consoles) lead and Wii U is about to be killed and all support from Nintendo is to be dropped. The difference is almost a quarter of lifetime Wii U sales!! A quarter!!

There is no way in hell Wii U outsells Vita. The very day that Nintendo announces the next console, Wii U stops selling. Vita won't be replaced in years (if ever) and it still has many games from big franchises coming. Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, the new Minecraft, Ys, Digimon, VLR3, etc. These games will move consoles in Japan and we are about to get a bunch of new announcements on TGS. You guys are underestimating Vita so badly, you should be ashamed of yourself.

On the other hand Wii U is only getting crappy Amiibo grames, Pokken, SMTxFE and its swan song in Zelda U, which will be a multiplat either way. That's a recipe for outselling Vita? Right. Get real people.

This!!!
People always say that Vita has bad support though it has a much better support than Wii U.
Playstation Vita is getting Dragon Quest: Builders, Dragon Quest: Heroes 2, Legend of Heroes 1+2, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, Digimon World: Next Order, God Eater: Resurrection, Ys 8, Zero Escape 3, World of Final Fantasy and so much more big games...
Wii U is not even getting a quarter of these great games!

Tell me number of this games that are exclusives!?

Vita only have Japanese multiplats and Indies, Wii U still have full support of Nintendo and have Indies, and guess what, all Nintendo games are exclusives. Like or not, Vita is device only for Indie and Japanese multiplats, on other hand Wii U is full of great Nintendo exclusives.

Only reason why Vita will be sold better on the end is because it will have much longer life (of course without any Sony support), Nintendo home console have life span around 5 years and PSP had life of almost 10 years. Also, probably it will be last Sony handheld and Sony will keep producing Vita only because they have profit on hardware while they dont have any investment from software side.

And where the heck is the problem with this? Nintendo gamer always bring this argument because they have no third-party support on their consoles. Third-party can boost sales as much as first party games can do! And I have as much fun playing third-party games as first-party games.

This shows that you know nothing about PS Vita...
The same thing can be said about Wii U. Wii U is only getting the same games which we saw already the last 2-4 generations (Smash Bros., Mario Kart, Donkey Kong....).

Even if the Sony western first party support stopped after 2 years, it has much better first party games than Wii U.
And with all games combined PS Vita destroys Wii U.

Problem is that all those games can be played on other platforms too. Nintendo gamers buy Nintendo hardware because of Nintendo games, not because third-party support or Indies. Third-party support and Indies are only addon on Nintendo console not main thing like their are on Vita.

Wii U got only one same game which we saw already in the last 2-4 generation (Zelda WW in HD), PS4 for instance have much bigger number of same games. Wii U also have some great and big new IPs like of course Splatoon.

I dont agree that Vita have much better first party games than Wii U, Wii U actually have some of the best Nintendo games of whole franchises.

Also, Super Mario Maker is game that currently have lotsa talk and videos ont internet, Splatoon had similar treatment before that, Smash Bros. same, Mario Kart 8, Mario 3D World...Zelda U will certainly have big impact on market...when Vita had last time big or important game that actually people mentioned!? I personally don't know for any Vita hit.

Probably not, most nintendo fans already have a wii u and the wii u isn't diversifying its catalog with non Nintendo-like games, sooo sales will probably fall.

Vita sales will also probably fall, but it still is a hit in Japan, and it already has a 2 million lead

YTD Japan - 3DS - 1.300k

YTD in Japan - Vita - 640k

YTD in Japan - Wii U - 400k

Doesn't seem like hit in Japan either.

Hit as in, still currently selling relatively well compared to everything else. Even if we dispute the meaning of "hit", the point still stands that vita has a huge lead on the wii u in japan

Actually, currently is selling on pair with Wii U, and its not hit In no one sense, especially this year when selling far more worst than last year. But of course it have huge lead over Wii U in Japan, handhelds are far more popular than home consoles in Japan.

Probably just. The Wii U still has 3 or 4 AAA games to help boost it. The Vita has bugger all and is just surviving on JRPGs with ridiculous titles and indie games.

zelda is the only AAA game. Pokken, SMT x FE (jrpg by the way), xenoblade (jrpg), project treasure and star fox aren't AAA when put next to games like COD, Fallout, MGS, etc.

Vita also has compatibility with ps4 (gives it a lead in europe), and those jrpgs are what give it the lead in japan

Actually, Pokken, SMTxFE, Fatal Frame, Xenoblade and Zelda U are all AAA games, we still dont know size and content of Star Fox but I think because Nintendo give $60 price tag for game that is also AAA game, only game that isn't AAA is Project Treasure (also Mario Tenis and Amiibo Festival), also there are very good chances that Pikmin 4 is Wii U game, so another AAA game.

Fact that games like COD, Fallout, MGS...are more expensive and have much stronger marketing , doesn't mean that this Nintendo games are not AAA games.

Wii U sells a lot better than vita during holidays

Wii U sells 10X better than vita on USA while the other regions Vita sells with a small advantage

Vita has 1 year advantage yet the LT sales of both devices are almost identical

Nintendo support Wii U with more notable games

Vita support resume in Niche Japoneses games and Fifa

My answer: I don't know. Nobody knows Vita sales, this thing can still come with more 2M from undertracking bc reasons

They've had the same number of "Holidays" in the West as Vita only actually launched 8 months before the Wii U in the West.

Wii U was also at 3.5m within a couple of months of release. So long term sales have slown down greatly.

As you say though, it's pretty much impossible to figure out if it remains so close simply from there being no official figures for Vita sales. It also no longer gets FIFA and FIFA 15 is pretty much the second best selling Vita game of the last 12 months behind MineCraft outside Japan.

There are a few medium tier exclusives still to hit though such as Digimon (2nd Japanese one). It really does depend how long Sony decide to keep supporting it. I did notice the demo of FIFA 16 actually has a specific section for Vita configuration now. I guess they figured Vita owners will also have a PS4 and play the game in their house rather than on the move.

Like I said, Holidays affects more positively for Wii U than Vita.

Even both having the same number of Holidays, Vita still has a time advantage. Makes me wonder why Sony don't release official numbers for Vita, I really want they show this already so all this non sense competition can go to an end

You are just making assumptions why Vita will sell more than Wii U in the end, its not as if Nintendo has many big hitters left for Wii U, they've run out of gas when it comes to system seller exclusives for Wii U, other than Zelda U. Even if both are discontinued at the same time Vita will probably have the lead.

Splatoon is solid system seller in Japan, Super Mario Maker will certanly move some consoles, same could be said for Fatal Frame and Xenoablade, Zelda U offcourse...

Vita come out 8 months earlier and Wii U in holiday seasons have 2-3x better sales than Vita, so if they exactly same time on market I am not sure that Vita would have the lead, but that talk doesnt make sense because Vita will be certainly be longer on market than Wii U.

Wii U outsells Vita in US and EU every week and the Vita barely outsells it in Japan weekly. So yes, it will catch up and sell more.

No... PS Vita is outselling Wii U in Europe!!!
There is only one market where Wii U is selling better than PS Vita and this is USA.

It varies with Japan and EU. Mostly the Wii U outsells the Vita in EU, and mostly the Vita outsells the Wii U in Japan.

Splatoon is a system selling in both the US and Japan.

Super Mario Maker will move more consoles than Splatoon. (I think)

Xenoblade will most likely be more of a console mover than sell a ton of copies.

Zelda is obvious

Fatal Frame? Sorry but no. Fatal Frame will make some people finally buy a Wii U, but it won't be a huge system seller. Mario Tennis and Star Fox will move more than Fatal Frame.

But this situation has been going on for years. Nintendo fans claim that the Vita has (almost) no exclusives and that the Wii U is getting one important exclusive after another. Nevertheless the 2-million-gap hasn't changed much since the end of 2012... so why should the gap suddenly shrink or even close if it's the same situation in 2016 than all these years before (Wii U with a few exclusives, Vita with a lot of niche games that can be played on other systems)?

;)

I wouldn't think so, sony probably wont replace the vita (even if the do at all) until about 2-3 years/ when the next nintendo handheld is out. Wii U is a different situation, theres already rumours about it being replaced next year or the next, and when it does, sales will be non-existent. Wii U and Vita sell about the same each week so I'd say the Vita wins

Actually Wii U was on 900k difference with Vita but then on VGC Vita in one weak get update with 1.3m.
