Forums - Gaming - Microsoft tired of being second to Sony, looks to buy AMD to kill Playstation

Lol, this rumor surfaced couple of weeks ago and NO it would not kill Playstation, it is not that simple. It would not even kill potential PS5 in any way, MS can't just buy a company and start to manipulate competition. These things are protected by laws, otherwise there would already be one single monopoly of all things.

I cannot imagine toilet-free life.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.

Can't beat 'em, kill 'em?

Or Microsoft buys AMD, just straight up quits the console market (which has rarely made them any money anyway) and just rake in easy cash indirectly while Sony does all the heavy lifting? There's numerous reasons to buy this besides trying to kill Playstation. And killing Playstation would be the most nonsensical use of this tactic.

Besides, using this kind of tactic to kill competition and manipulate pricing is a violation of long standing anti-trust laws.  Buying AMD to kill Playstation would just end with the government putting its boot sooo far up MS's rear end.

Highly doubt that is the main reason if the rumor is true..

I hope its fake because if so sony has to buy from nvidia and we remember the reality synthetizer that was gimped compared to the 8800

Erm the 8800 was launched in November 2006 and cost $599 at that time the PS3 reality synthetizer was based on a 7900 series card and had the RoP's halved so it didn't cost Sony $400 each.

its more similar to the 7800 GTX

The 360 one was much newer

First Minecraft and now AMD? God damn Microsoft! o.O

PS4 wouldn't be affected, but it makes me wonder what the development of PS5 and the next Xbox would be like. I mean, MS would have almost complete insight into what Sony is designing and could easily come up with a console that's exactly a tad more powerful than the PS5 to steal all the glory of being the most powerful without any risk.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Even if Microsoft bought AMD (they won't) it would have zero impact on PlayStation. The contracts have already been made and Microsoft can't get out of them no matter how much money they spend. So the PS4 is safe. For the PS5 Sony will just look for other options. Intel has also some good CPUs with integrated graphics. Or they could once again change architecture and go for ARM or something. They would think of something, I'm sure of that.

Uhhh sure.

So the rumor is that they're going to buy a struggling company ... then cut off a revenue stream? Interesting.
