Forums - Sony Discussion - Frostbite Dev: The PS3 CELL Retarded The Industry Significantly

Well, he's worked on games on these platforms, a vast majority of us haven't, so... We're kind of out of our league.

But hey look at Titanfall. Respawn didn't know what game they were making or what platform it would end up on so to be safe they wanted to include PS3 and as a result had to go with an old engine because it would make the PS3 side easier. So that tells me this guy is probably on to something.

He probably spent a lot of late nights at work because of the Cell and still holds a (well deserved) grudge against it.

Developers are such pussies these days. Imagine such people making games in the 80s. There were no pre-made tools, no Unreal Engine waiting for you to use the level designer. You had to make all by yourself and the architecture wasn't exactly common. You had bagillions of consoles, all with a whole other idea behind it. You never heard devs whine about the complexitiy back then (granted, we didn't have internet, but still). Today, they have all that fancy stuff to help them and they whine all day how hard it is. Boo-fucking-hoo!

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

The problem was that devs needed to actually put effort into building games for the PS3 and he was too lazy or lacked the skill to do it.They could not easily just port the game over to the PS3 so they cried about actually needing to do their job.The bold does not make sense, since other developers (mostly exclusive) had no issue.Sega,Kojima,Namco,Capcom,Square and companies like NIS and Atlus had no complaints.EA does not make quality games anyway and their game engines are average at best.BF Hardline was very rough around the edges as was NFS compared to other games.

After the mess the Frostbite was on PS4/Xbone/PC I have to disagree... they didn't know what they are talking about

How is Frostbite a mess?

What does that even mean?

Anyway I think Sony paid the biggest price for using the cell thingy majiggy

I think you can only judge this if you are a dev by yourself and actually worked with the PS3.

Yeah sorry, guy actually working on games for all platforms >>>>>> random guy on the Internet.

Also, no shit exclusive developers would have less of an issue or none at all, lol. If only most games released were platform exclusives.

Have you played BF Hardline? That engine is weak.

I don't get it, how? It's one platform and wasn't even the main platform last gen. Would console gaming or pc gaming be more advance now without the cell. Maybe he is talking about delays but this gen doesn't seem to be that much better.

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Yeah, because Stefan Boberg is an unknown person who became the technical director of the Frostbite engine because he learned coding 5 years ago, like the people who he is talking to in this twitter chat.
