Forums - Gaming - MGSV looks great and still hits 60fps. Enough is enough.

This whole 60/30 fps, 1080p or not 1080p thing is getting very old realy. Was the game good ? Did you enjoy it ? Than screw the fps or the resolution, just have fun.

Nice MGSV achieves 1080p and keeps 60fps, congrats, I dont realy care when the game doesnt do this but is still an awesome game cause at the end of the day its your enjoyment playing the freaking game that matters not its technical aspects.

They don't. Does anyone check financials before making comments like that? Konami is always profitable.

In their 2015  report: "...consolidated revenues for Konami's digital entertainment segment were down 11.1% year-over-year."

They have just laid a bunch of people off and had huge cut backs and restructuring.

And their operating income is down by half over years previous.  That sounds pretty bad.

Plus, going back even futher, income was down 24.6% in 2013, and down 33.3% in 2012.  So I’m not sure what you are referring.

And why not license the engine if it's really that great.  How would it hurt the company?

And what did Konami's digital entertainment segment release in FY 2015?

Also I'm not sure where you're looking but Konami's OI was up 87.8% YoY in FY 2015.

And in 2013 OI was down 46.6% but 2012 it was up 97%. So I'm not sure where you are even looking.

There has always been some fluctuation with Konami, but they've never lost any money in recent years.

I understand what you're getting at, but if Naughty Dog says that the best they can do is 30, then I also believe them.

Those guys really know how to pull everything out of a system. As great as UC4 looks, I think we'll probably see the limits of what the PS4 can do once they release their 2nd current-gen only game.

You will always be sacrificing something for 60fps, up until we hit a roof with discernable graphics. I just hope developers make appropriate judgement calls and I think think they are at the moment. More and more games are striving for 60fps.

Someone also made a good point that a lot of AAA games have very strict deadlines, often their release dates are announced on the games reveal. We've known about MSGV for almost 3 years and only got the release date this year. Most devs are not afforded that freedom.

Lets be realistic here. While MGS5 is good and all that, there is a simple explanation as to why its runs at 60fps on current gen hardware.

Its a port of a game made for an engine based on last gen hardware. Simple as that.

I can't wait for Syndicate to come out, run like shit, and then sell equal to if not greater than MGSV.

Or because people like the game? Don't be so dismissive.

MGS5 doesn't seem like the best of examples, given it's a cross-gen title. It's certainly a very well done one, but its 7th gen foundations are pretty obvious. Also, as Miguel mentioned, it cost enough to be the final nail in Kojima's multi-decade relationship with Konami :p

I can understand where you're coming from spemanig, i feel a similar way about IQ, but at the end of the day the average gamer simply does't seem to care much in most situations. That makes frame-rate an easy target for a developer that wants to make a game that pushes 8th gen tech, and doesn't want it to look shitty as a result. I'm personally totally okay with that.

On a side note, i'm a bit confused as to why you thought of Bloodborne as 'the first truly next gen game'. It was a pretty game, but that was mostly on the back of its art-direction. On a technical level it was nothing remarkable.

I was referring to next gen in terms of gameplay with Bloodborne, not technical prowess.

If MGS5 did 60fps with better phyics/interactive environment, than I would be impressed. There is not much happening within the game like Batman or The Witcher 3 either,so achieving 60fps is not something special.

There's literally nothing the physics you describe add to the gameplay. Seeing grass move realistically out of the way when you walk by does jack shit to the gameplay and in every occasion 60fps is superior. Both Batman and TW3 would have been better games with 60fps and a less interactive environment.

Not all games have a state of the art scalable and efficient engine such as FOX. And it's slightly unfair to compare against other open world games like Ubisoft games, TW3, Arkham Knight, which are much more vast and dense are they not? With more NPC's.

I've played my fair share of open work Ubi games as well as bits of AK, and none of them are "more dense" than MGSV, not by a inch.
